Devoteam plants 2,500 trees through AWS Treeapp partnership
International consultancy Devoteam wanted to naturally integrate environmental responsibility into core operations in a way that would scale with the business. Partnering with Treeapp, the firm has embedded processes into its work, which have resulted in the planting of some 2,500 trees around the world.
Devoteam is a technology consulting firm specialising in cloud platforms, cybersecurity, data, and sustainability. With key outfits in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the UK the firm has more than 12,000 employees across the EMEA region, and has guided companies through a sustainable transformation for over 30 years. It also boasts a team of 450 AWS experts, and has been an AWS Premier Consulting Partner since 2013.
That last proficiency has been at the heart of Devoteam’s sustainability revolution. AWS (short for Amazon Web Services) is the world’s leading cloud computing platform. Offering businesses scalable, secure services over the internet, without the need for traditional inhouse IT infrastructure, AWS subsequently offers inroads into the digital architecture of thousands of companies around the world.
Treeapp
Treeapp is a global tree planting organisation operating sites across the world. When team members at Devoteam decided that was an organisation they should partner with, they looked to the firm’s AWS Well-Architected Framework Review (which the firm says ensures cloud systems to be "efficient, cost-effective, and resilience") as a chance to connect the sustainability scheme to a scalable part of the business.
At first, the idea was simple: plant 10 trees for every AWS Well-Architected Framework Review delivered. But according to a release from the firm, "it didn’t stay that way for long". As Devoteam worked with Treeapp to calculate the real carbon footprint of these reviews, they realised 20 trees per review would better reflect the impact, and made the switch.
By linking tree planting directly to AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews, Devoteam ensured a consistent, trackable contribution that scales as the business grows. With reviews being a high-volume service, this initiative didn’t sit on the sidelines, it became part of the day-to-day, while the initiative created a sense of pride among staff, who now see how their everyday work translates into long-lasting environmental benefit.
The project also helped open the door to deeper, more authentic sustainability conversations, with clients and AWS alike. Just as AWS introduced sustainability as the sixth pillar of its Well-Architected Framework, Devoteam had already integrated environmental action into their most frequent technical service.
Growing initiative
By linking tree planting to a core service, Devoteam made sure their impact would grow with the business. Planting 20 trees per review was a data-backed decision that reflected the real carbon footprint of their work, adding credibility across the board. Now, with close to 2,500 trees planted, Devoteam has embedded tree planting into the heart of their business, and their culture.
Looking ahead, members of the Devoteam team will also be joining Treeapp for an in-person planting day in 2025 - delivering a hands-on way to connect with the impact of their efforts and bring their commitment to life beyond the digital realm.
