The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded CGI a contract to enhance its Defence Medical Services with an integrated electronic health record, enabling it to provide the appropriate healthcare to its personnel anywhere at any time. The consulting firm was awarded the 3-year contract following competition and builds on the firm’s longstanding relationship with the MoD.

In a bid to improve its Defence Medical Services (DMS), the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded CGI a three-year contract to provide integrated electronic health record (iEHR) services. The contract, called INTERMOLAR, builds on the firm’s successful relationship with the MoD and enhances the current Defence Medical Information Capability Programme (DMICP) service, provided by the consulting firm since 2006. “We are delighted to continue our close relationship with CGI to ensure INTERMOLAR delivers the reliable service that we currently receive from DMICP,” explains Air Marshal Paul Evans, Surgeon General of the MoD. “We are confident INTERMOLAR will play a key part in our continuous drive for efficient and patient-focused processes and services.”

The iEHR service will be based on the EMIS* Health application: EMIS PCS, which allows clinicians with appropriate access rights to access and view patient records 24 hours a day wherever a patient seeks treatment. This enables DMS to promote, protect and restore the health of service personnel throughout the world. The new system will hold some 600,000 patient records and support up to 20,000 consultations per day from 6,000 users 400 sites worldwide. The hosting for the system will be done from CGI’s ISO/IES 27001 certified facilities in the UK, while the service itself will be managed from the firm’s service desk in Wales.

“We are proud of the excellent reputation that DMICP has within the MOD, and we look forward to a swift, low risk and successful transition to INTERMOLAR,” comments Steve Smart, Senior Vice-President of Space, Defence, National and Cyber Security at CGI. “We have a strong, experienced team who will deliver an effective iEHR service for Defence Medical Services and we look forward to working closely with them to deliver this important programme.”
