German consulting firm Allolio & Konrad has been purchased by global advisory firm Analysys Mason. The deal sees Analysys Mason increase its headcount by 45 consultants and staff, one year after it similarly acquired Swedish firm Stelacon.

The telecommunications industry finds itself in a period of upheaval as new technologies, new competitors and new expectations from consumers disrupt tried and tested ways of working. As a result, many consulting firms catering to the sector are having to bolster their capacity to meet with changing client demands.

UK headquartered Analysys Mason is a management consulting firm dedicated to the telecoms, media and technology (TMT) sector. The company was founded in 1992, and is a subsidiary of IT services group Datatec. It has been rapidly expanding in recent years, bolstering its offering substantially with the 2019 acquisition of Swedish consultancy Stelacon, as well as US bolt-on AMI Partners in 2018, and the purchase Nexia Management Consulting in the Nordics the year before that.

Now, Analysys Mason has further added to its offices in the UK (Cambridge, Manchester and London), and mainland European offices in Madrid, Milan, Oslo, Paris and Stockholm, with a deal for German firm Allolio & Konrad. The deal is aimed at strengthening Analysys Mason’s expertise in TMT strategy, digital transformation, IT transformation and performance consulting, as well as in 5G and emerging technologies.

Based in Bonn, Allolio & Konrad has spent two decades consulting with clients in the telecommunications sector. With long-term client relationships with some of Europe’s leading telecom operators – including BT, Vodafone, Telefonica, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone – Allolio & Konrad focuses chiefly on projects in Germany and the DACH region. A language and cultural barrier often means the German-speaking consulting market is notoriously difficult for new entrants to break into, meaning acquisitions in the area are often extremely attractive to consultancies looking to expand into the region.

Allolio & Konrad’s services include the design, management and assurance of major business support systems (BSS), operational support systems (OSS) transformation programmes and large-scale, multi-year IT strategy initiatives, alongside other propositions focused on performance and operations management. The firm will now integrate with Analysys Mason, with all 45 of Allolio & Konrad's staff – including leaders Peter McMenemy, Igor Doktorski, Paul Jevans, Christian Müller and Mirko Weissmann – joining. The acquisition is expected to finalise in March 2020, subject to the approval by the German Competition Authorities.

Commenting the Datatec subsidiary’s latest acquisition, Datatec CEO Jens Montanana said, “The acquisition of Allolio & Konrad builds logically on other recent acquisitions, strengthening Analysys Mason’s position in the strategic, digital transformation, IT transformation and performance consulting market, and broadening its skills base to support the accelerating demand for 5G expertise. A presence in Germany complements the existing footprint of Analysys Mason’s international offices, adding valuable skills and expertise to better serve its multinational clients.”
