Duff & Phelps appoints Managing Director of regulatory wing
International consulting firm Duff & Phelps has appointed a new Managing Director for its compliance and regulatory practice. Andy Murray has joined the company from Milestone International Tax Partners, having previously spent time at PwC.
Consulting firm Duff & Phelps is a global provider of advisory services, which aims to help clients protect, restore and maintain the value of their company, and as such is well-positioned to take advantage of a growing need for corporate rescue work. While the firm’s restructuring work takes up a great deal of the headlines concerning Duff & Phelps, it is also responding to rising demand in its compliance offering.
To meet the expectations of clients looking to meet increasingly stringent regulations such as GDPR, Duff & Phelps has hired a new Managing Partner in its compliance and regulatory practice. Andy Murray joins the firm’s London office following a 20-year career in the financial advisory sector. The remit of his new role will include providing advisory services to alternative investment funds, such as private equity and hedge funds, with a primary focus on the international tax aspects of their structures. He will also offer deal-specific advice related to the acquisition, restructuring and disposal of investment portfolio assets.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Murray spent just under 11 years with Milestone International Tax Partners, where he was a Partner responsible for the firm’s funds offering, covering all elements of fund advisory, including structuring, deal advisory and tax risk management. This was preceded by a two-year spell with Lehman Brothers investment bank, before the firm’s collapse during the 2008 financial crisis. Before this, he worked at PwC in both the UK and New Zealand, becoming a Senior Tax Manager in the Big Four firm’s London office, before the end of his seven-year tenure at the company.
Commenting on his arrival, Marie Barber, Managing Director of the Regulatory Tax Advisory service at Duff & Phelps said, “Andy is a well-known expert in his field and we are delighted to welcome him to the team. His wealth of specialist knowledge is invaluable, and I am confident this will further strengthen the depth and breadth of knowledge already possessed within our Compliance and Regulatory Consulting practice.”
The news follows hot on the heels of another Managing Director appointment at Duff & Phelps earlier in 2019. In order to bolster its UK restructuring practice, the firm has announced that Ben Collett had joined the firm, and will now work across its Birmingham, Manchester and London offices, focusing on providing advisory services to corporate clients across the UK and Europe.
