Cognizant opens Collaboratory lab in London, second in Europe

Cognizant yesterday formally opened a new Collaboratory lab in London, after Amsterdam its second in Europe. The new interactive work space brings together a multi-disciplinary team of social scientists, design thinkers, creative technologists, engineers, and strategists to help organisations transform and reimagine their business, operating, and technology models for the digital era.

“We have learned that success in the digital economy means reimagining products and experiences at speed and scale, but just as important, beginning that innovation process with a clear understanding of customer behaviour,” said Sanjiv Gossain, Senior Vice President and Head of Cognizant’s Digital Business in Europe. 

The new arm will showcase new technologies such as Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 and in action, provide a manufacturing space for prototyping, offer tools for creation and collaboration, and includes configurable work spaces for technology-led innovation. The Collaboratory further provides the firm’s clients with access to the end-to-end managed innovation offerings of Cognizant Digital Business – the firm’s unit that blends strategy and design services with human insight and analytics.

Gossain added, “Our Collaboratory in London combines human-centric design with digital technologies to enable clients to deliver engaging new experiences for their customers. Cognizant integrates these elements in a space designed to encourage fresh thinking and collaboration as we innovate and co-create securely and quickly to shorten the time-to-value.”

The London location, based in Paddington, is Cognizant’s second Collaboratory in Europe, and fourth globally, following earlier openings in Amsterdam, New York, and Melbourne (opened in November last year). The Collaboratory network further builds on Cognizant’s wider digital labs infrastructure, which has more than a dozen hubs around the globe, including in Barcelona, Spain; Toronto, Canada; Rapperswil, Switzerland; and Boulder, United States.

Among the customers Cognizant serves in the digital domain are Barclays, Centrica, Walmart and Etihad (e.g. digitisation of guest experience) – the firm helps them according to Gossain with moving their business from just “doing digital” to “being digital.”

Commenting on the news, Michael Versace, Global Research Director at independent market intelligence and advisory firm IDC, remarked, “Across all industries, businesses today are operating in a fast-changing market environment fuelled by many digital trends, where agility and accelerated innovation cycles are key to survival and future success. We view Cognizant’s expanding network of Collaboratory facilities as a new client engagement platform for digital innovation, addressing an important need today of both business and technology executives. 

Earlier this year Cognizant opened a delivery centre in Sao Paulo and established a new office in Hong Kong.

US change management consultancy opens office in London

One year after UK consultancy Thought Provoking Consulting invested in American change management firm Change 4 Growth, it has opened its first international office in the UK. Change 4 Growth’s new London locale will see the company look to supply organisational transformation solutions crafted over the last several years in the US to British clients.

Specialising in transformational change, American retail boutique consultancy Change 4 Growth (C4G) offers an expansive range of services. This includes organisational change management, culture alignment and engagement, leadership development, training and e-learning and recruitment of staff support. Well-known retail brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Chico’s, Eddie Bauer and Ann Taylor are already among C4G’s clients, but since receiving investment from Thought Provoking Consulting in early 2018, the company has been keen to pursue expansion of its own.

Speaking at the time of the deal, Beth Thomas, CEO of C4G, commented, "I’m so excited to be working with Thought Provoking Consulting... The move will allow us to tap into a breadth of retail expertise and help our clients find solutions that are critical in this age in areas such as pricing, promotions, planning, product development and supply chain."

US change management consultancy opens office in London

In 2019, this has seen the Ohio-headquartered consultancy announce the opening of its first international office in London. Led by UK native and Managing Director, David Lucas, the base in Britain’s capital will bring the firm’s holistic service to clients in Europe looking deal with change at every level within their organisations.

Commenting via his LinkedIn profile, Lucas said, “At a time of huge technological upheaval, the importance of organisational and cultural change, married with operational speed and agility, has never been greater. Achieving that balance between people, process and technology for the digital era is the burning platform for most organisations…The C4G team… offers a spectrum of change and re-alignment capabilities and can bring proven approaches, methodologies and solutions to support the UK market.”

In the US, C4G has been able to tap into the fact that disengagement and unhappiness at work have become an epidemic across multiple sectors, resulting in poor business performance and bottom line results. With the UK’s high streets currently faltering due to an influx of e-commerce competition, Brexit pressures, and stagnating real wages, C4G will likely also find fertile ground for its retail-focused transformation services on both sides of the Atlantic.
