TCS extends sponsorship of Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore

Tata Consultancy Services has extended and expanded its role as IT partner to the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore. The firm will again provide a smart phone app for the event, as well as drive additional fundraising efforts to support a local disability charity  the Society for the Physically Disabled.

The Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) was founded in 2002, with around 6,000 runners. This year – its fifteenth offering – three routes are planned for what has become the marquee running event on Singapore’s sporting calendar. The sporting event has since been granted Gold Label status by the International Association of Athletics Federations, placing it in the same league as the New York City Marathon and the London Marathon. The 2016 edition takes place on the first Sunday of December, on the 4th.

As part of Tata Consultancy Services's (TCS) corporate responsibility programme, the firm since 2014 serves as an IT partner of the SCMS. The IT consulting firm recently announced that it has renewed, and expanded, its partnership relationship with the marathon. The new deal will see the firm provide the third-generation of the official race smartphone app – which offers a range of features, including a unique training functionality that offers an 8-week customisable fitness plan, and additional information, such as the latest event news, weather data and FAQs.

Fundraising for local charity

In addition, TCS has developed an additional fundraising programme for the race, which sells limited edition shoelaces developed with Brooks – all proceeds from the sales will go to TCS Singapore’s charity of choice, the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD). The SPD was formed more than 50 years ago to support people with disability achieve integration of people with disabilities into mainstream society and achieve independence. Abhimanyau Pal, Executive Director of SPD, says, “It is only with the support of individuals and organisations such as TCS that we are able to continue running programs and services to help people with disabilities to be independent and self-reliant.”

Professional golfer Colin Montgomerie will become a brand ambassador for mid-tier professional services firm RSM. The sponsorship deal is the latest in RSM’s drive to build brand awareness across its international network through its golf partnership strategy.

With its reputation for being the recreational activity of choice for businesspeople the world over, as well as a common way of hosting informal deal brokering, golf sponsorship has been seen as a key way for professional services firms to promote their brands. Thanks to this, global auditing and advisory player RSM has fostered an extensive and continuing relationship with professional golf over the years.

The firm sponsors the European Tour, along with individuals like rising golf star Andrew Sullivan, Paul Waring, Zach Johnson, Chris Kirk, and former Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III. Now, RSM has added to its growing roster of golf sponsorships with the news that Colin Montgomerie has joined Team RSM.

RSM welcomes Colin Montgomerie as new brand ambassador

Known fondly by commentators as ‘Monty’, the Glasgow-born golfer turned pro in 1987, and has enjoyed a decorated three decades since. Montgomerie held the rank of Europe’s number one player for an unbeaten seven-year run, going unbeaten in eight Ryder Cup singles matches and captaining the victorious 2010 European Ryder Cup team. In 2005, he was awarded an OBE for services to sport, and he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of fame in 2013.

Montgomerie will now wear RSM-branded clothing during tournaments, while acting as an ambassador for the firm during media and personal engagements. He will continue to play on the main and seniors tours in Europe and the Champions Tour in the United States, in this capacity.

Commenting on his new role, Montgomerie said, “I am delighted and very excited to be joining RSM as a golf ambassador, representing them on both the European Tour and in the USA on the PGA Tour Champions. To be partnering with RSM at this time in my career, and at the same time as their success continues to grow is something I am very much looking forward to being a part of.”
