Universum: McKinsey and BCG favourite consulting firms
European Engineering students that aspire a career in the consulting industry ideally would like to work for McKinsey & Company and The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). If they choose for a career outside management consulting, Siemens, BMW and Google are the favourite employers.
Every year, analyst firm Universum looks into the popularity of employers among European students. This year, more than 130,000 students in 12 European countries participated in the online survey. The 50 companies that, according to students, are the best place to start a career are included in the so-called ‘Europe’s Most Attractive Employers’ ranking.
The 2014 edition shows that Engineering students prefer to work at the German firm Siemens. US technology giant IBM grabs second place, followed by car manufacturer BMW.
The highest ranked consulting firm on the list is McKinsey & Company (#12), the world's largest strategy consulting firm. Competitor BCG Is found on #20. In addition, four other consulting firms are listed in the top 50: Accenture and the Big 4 firms PwC, EY and Deloitte.
Engineering vs. Business
Last week, Consultancy.uk highlighted the same ranking for Economics and Business students. The results show that the consulting industry is more popular among Business students compared to their Engineering peers. Business students list 10 consulting firms in the top 50 employers, in addition consulting firms also find themselves higher ranked within the top 50.
