Jeremy Doherty appointed new Arup Edinburgh office lead

28 February 2024 Consultancy.uk

Digital expert Jeremy Doherty has been promoted to Arup’s new Edinburgh officer leader. He brings over 17 years of experience to the role, having spent his career managing and delivering a wide range of digital technology, engineering, energy, and environmental projects.

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Across the UK, Middle East, India and Africa (UKIMEA) region alone, the firm hosts a 7,000 strong team which delivers advisory, planning, engineering, and design services across a wide range of markets including energy, property, and transport.

As Arup’s new Edinburgh officer leader, Jeremy Doherty will look to increase Arup’s impact on local communities and environments working closely alongside clients, partners, and collaborators. He will carry this out in addition to helming the firm’s digital services business and environmental impact assessment programme in Scotland, Northern Ireland and North-East England.

Speaking on his appointment, Doherty commented, “Scotland has such a rich culture of innovation, commerce and engineering, that forms a fantastic foundation from which we can build. With our academic institutions continuing to supply industry with talent and knowhow, I believe we are in a unique position to increase our position on the world stage and take a front seat in delivering solutions to global challenges.”

Doherty has spent the past four years with Arup. Prior to that, he was a principal consultant with sustainability advisory firm ERM, and also held roles with Mouchel, Amey and Brechin Tindal Oats. He specialises in projects using innovative technologies and data, seeking out major challenges and hurdles and implementing technology to streamline processes and improve outcomes.

He takes on the role at a time of major change for Arup. At the close of 2023, Arup appointed Paula Walsh as its new chair for the UK, Middle East, India and Africa – while the firm sought to bounce back from a difficult year, in which a slowdown in the construction industry led to it announcing a wave of redundancies.
