Joe Gaytten joins Arup as associate director

Arup has appointed a new associate director for its economics and case-making practice. Joining from the Department for Transport, Joe Gaytten brings more than 15 years of public policy experience to the firm.

Global advisory firm Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. It employs roughly 17,000 people in over 90 offices across 35 countries – and regularly works with public and private sector clients looking to overhaul key infrastructure and policies.

Gaytten arrives with the firm following two years as deputy director for future transport systems at the Department for Transport, where he worked to provide analysis and strategy to the government via a multidisciplinary team of economists, statisticians, social researchers, project and portfolio professionals. He was previously chief economist for the Northern Ireland Office, and earlier also worked as leader of the business case team at East West Railway.

Across these roles, he has accrued expertise which Arup will hope to put to work, as clients look for support with major policy initiatives across the UK. Gaytten will be based in the Midlands.

Sharing the news of his career move on LinkedIn, Gaytten said, “I’m delighted to be starting today at Arup as associate director in economics and case making. I’ll stay located in my beloved Birmingham, but my brilliant new team covers the Midlands, Wales and the West.
