Tata Technologies expands operations in West Midlands

Tata Technologies has announced plans to expand its Leamington Spa European headquarters. The move is the latest in a long line of consulting industry investments in the West Midlands, and will create hundreds of new jobs in the region.

A company within the broader professional services conglomerate, the Tata Group, Tata Technologies has more than 12,000 employees around the world. The firm provides services in engineering and design, product lifecycle management, manufacturing, product development, and IT service management to automotive and aerospace original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers.

In Europe, Tata Technologies has four main offices – two in Germany, one in the Netherlands, and its continental headquarters in Leamington Spar, Warwick. The organisation’s European headquarters delivers engineering and digital solutions across the automotive, aerospace and industrial machinery sectors in European, US and Asia-Pacific markets, housing engineering support services, two advanced engineering labs and an R&D centre.

This European Innovation and Development Centre is already a key delivery centre for Tata Technologies Europe, as its biggest centre out of India with approximately 650 employees in the UK. As Tata Technologies prepares to support clients around the world with the implementation of a new generation of digital tools, however, the firm has announced it will further expand its footprint. It will now scale up its West Midlands operations, with around 350 jobs being created in the process.

Warren Harris, CEO of Tata Technologies, said, “Teams at EIDC are part of some of the biggest innovations that we are delivering for our international customers, and we want to leverage the talent in the West Midlands to engineer the next generation of Electric Vehicles and Aircrafts. Through partnerships with educational institutions, we aim to provide training, resources and job opportunities to individuals looking to enter or advance in these fields while also fostering innovation and growth in the mobility industry. We are delighted to host the West Midlands mayor at our European HQ to discuss our shared ambitions in developing an expert and diverse workforce in the West Midlands.”

The plans will build on the West Midlands’ status as a global hub for industry 4.0, and its well-established talent pipeline, with the region’s STEM-proficient labour pool regularly supplemented by its universities. This is something which has also seen a growing number of other consulting firms look to tap into the region’s innovative market. That includes Big Four firm EY, technology giant Accenture, and global engineering firm Meinhart, among others.

Tata Technology’s announcement coincided with West Midlands Mayor Andy Street’s visit to its Leamington Spar site, where discussions centred on Tata Technologies’ pledge to develop a diverse and inclusive workforce in the region. The visit featured a display of the latest technologies in electric and autonomous vehicles being engineered in the West Midlands, which are expected to shape the future of the automotive industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, noted, “Tata is a globally renowned company and an important employer in our region. Back in November, I had the chance to meet with senior Tata leadership in Mumbai so it’s great to see Tata Technologies recognising the strength of our local - and STEM literate - talent pool with this announcement regarding investment and expansion.”
