Hymans Robertson promotes Head of Sole Trustee Services
Shani McKenzie has been named Head of Sole Trustee Services with Hymans Robertson. She brings almost 15 years of actuarial consulting expertise to the role.
Commenting on her new role, McKenzie said, “I am really pleased to take on this role to lead and develop our sole trustee services supporting our teams to stay abreast of the market needs and evolve these services.”
“I’m passionate about taking a collaborative approach to client relations, working together with the aim of better outcomes for members, and I look forward to bringing this to my new role.”
Currently celebrating its centenary, Hymans Robertson is a consulting firm which works alongside employers, trustees and financial services institutions, offering independent pensions, investments, benefits and risk consulting services, as well as data and technology solutions. The UK headquartered firm has over 1,000 employees and four offices.
According to McKenzie, her promotion comes as the storied firm adjusts to accommodate a key change in its core industry of actuarial work: the growth of sole trusteeship. A sole trusteeship is when a full trustee board is replaced with a single entity, either an individual or a professional trustee company, and according to McKenzie, it can increase “the professionalisation of pension schemes and can introduce a new dynamic to trustee, advisor and sponsor relations.”
As Head of Sole Trustee Services, McKenzie will lead the firm’s DB sole trustee services to its existing and future professional trustee clients. Recognising the increasing growth of sole trusteeship and the impact on service provision, she will manage the firm’s relationships with professional trustee firms on sole trustee services and oversee the internal delivery of services to sole trustee clients.
This will see McKenzie draw on more than a decade of DB experience with Hymans Robertson, having joined in 2007. As a Client Director and actuary, she has advised DB trustee and corporate clients ranging from non-professional boards to sole trustees.
Richard Shackleton, Partner and Head of Pensions at Hymans added, “With Shani’s experience of advising clients, and knowledge of the professional trustee market, she will bring extensive skills and leadership to delivering an outstanding service for our growing sole trustee clients. Shani will play a key role in navigating the evolution of these services, being adaptable to change, while providing robust advice.”
