Metropolitan Police Service hands Atos new application contract
Atos has extended its long-standing partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service, with the award of a new contract. The news will see Atos support the Service’s digital policing vision for up to seven years, helping to modernise its application suite.
Known commonly as the Met or Scotland Yard, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), is the UK’s largest police. The MPS is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement in the Metropolitan Police District, which currently consists of the 32 London boroughs.
Not including millions of commuters, visitors and tourists who arrive in the city each day, London has more than 8 million residents. As such, the Met announced a digital policing vision for 2017-2025, with an aim to deploy technology in its quest to “increase the speed and efficiency of delivery” of its services.
As the Met looks to deliver on its digital policing vision, IT consulting firm Atos has been awarded a contract by the MPS to deliver application management services. This will see the consultancy maintain and modernise the MPS’ application landscape, including refreshing legacy applications, as well as delivering upgrades that enable transformation through harnessing data and digital technologies.
Atos is a global digital transformation expert, with 107,000 employees and annual revenue of over €11 billion. The group provides tailored end-to-end solutions for all industries in 71 countries. The solutions delivered by Atos will help the MPS to enhance digital service performance, optimise management processes and boost innovation, enabling police officers in London to deliver an efficient and cost-effective service.
Nikki Kelly, Atos’ Senior Vice President in Public Sector and Defence Northern Europe, said, “I am proud that Atos is selected for delivering application services to Metropolitan Police supporting the rapidly changing needs of the largest police force in Europe. We are bringing a proactive data led approach to delivering the application services. We will deliver these in a real partnership focusing on the needs of policing and supporting the digital policing vision.”
Atos has worked with the MPS since 2015, providing the Service Integration and Management Tower (SIAM) to ensure a co-ordinated end-to-end delivery of ICT services. The contract to provide application management will see Atos further support the MPS’ digital policing vision for up to seven years.
As the MPS looks to modernise its services, it has been no stranger to help from the consulting industry. In recent years a host of firms have helped the Met with its ongoing overhaul, including Atos’ French origin rival Capgemini, which was awarded a contract to supply technical support for the Service earlier in 2021. Meanwhile, the 2020 edition of the MCA Awards saw EY pick up Project of the Year and triumph in the People category, for its work with the MPS in designing and delivering a unique leadership programme for 10,000 officers.
