Global consulting and engineering firm Mott MacDonald has won Deltek’s Management Consulting Award for how it is deploying the company’s Maconomy-based enterprise solution to power its internal operations.

Founded and headquartered in the United Kingdom, Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management and development consultancy with over 16,000 people delivering projects in Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and the Americas – 150 countries in all.

In order to maintain its high standards and build an agile and responsive operation from sales and project delivery to back office processes, Mott MacDonald a few years ago partnered with Deltek to transform its internal business infrastructure with a cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

Darren Russell, Chief Digital Officer of Mott MacDonald unpacked on the rationale back in 2017 when the firm embarked on the transformation. “Mott MacDonald’s leadership team has made ‘digital’ a top strategic priority as it is a critical factor in the success of any business transformation," he said. "To enable this we’re investing in the latest technology to maximise collaboration and connected thinking.”

In a highly collaborative development process by the Mott MacDonald and Deltek teams, Mott MacDonald built a Maconomy-based enterprise solution, creating an integrated cloud-based ERP system for its global operation. The system has since been deployed in North America and the global roll-out continues over the course of 2020.

According to Russell, the system will benefit the business of the employee-owned consultancy in a range of ways. First, it will enable further consistency across all projects, clients and global entities. Russell: “Clients will benefit from our own internal data excellence, seen in the way we innovate to support their needs during delivery.”

This will in turn improve the value added of Mott MacDonald’s engineers, consultants, designers and planners. “We have a mobile workforce and our people are always on the move,” Russell added.

“To share and support our customers’ ambitions we need a business system that is equally mobile and maximises the value of our people. Using the system to identify and allocate the right people to the right projects at the right time, we can help our clients to establish the steps needed to successfully deliver their business strategy.”

In addition, “you need agility in your business processes to consistently deliver projects that meet client expectations in a world of change and for us that is key,” said Russell, who has been with the professional services company for over 25 years.

Speed of implementation, automation of admin processes such as quality assurance and billing, and improved cross functional collaboration are seen as valuable additional benefits of Mott MacDonald’s digital transformation.

Testimony to how it is deploying Deltek’s solution for professional services companies to remain at the forefront of the industry, the software company has now lauded Mott MacDonald with a Most Valuable Projects (MVP) Award.
