Baringa, EY and Mason Advisory named top UK employers

Great Place to Work, an institute that assesses and certifies top employers, has named three consulting firms an excellent place to work in the UK. Management consultancy Baringa Partners, Big Four giant EY and digital consultancy Mason Advisory were each praised by the ranking.

Over a fifth of private companies say an emergent talent shortage is a top concern for their operations. A combination of a lack of access to skilled workers, an inability to reach applicable talent, and an ageing population mean that firms face stiff competition when it comes to courting new staff. As a result, rankings of workplaces have become an increasingly important 'feather in the cap' of prospective employers looking to set themselves apart from other firms.

Since 2000, Great Place to Work has conducted research into what makes a great workplace. According to the site, a great workplace is one where employees feel valued and trusted, have a sense of purpose, and are proud of what they do and who they work for. Top employers also focus on trusting, listening to and caring for their employees, with employee wellbeing being high on the agenda; effective leadership and line management, and a strong culture aligned to a strong business strategy, are also important.

Baringa, EY and Mason Advisory named top UK employers

In its latest due diligence on UK employers, Great Place to Work concluded that a select group of 120 employers can call themselves a top employer. Among them were three players from the consulting industry.

Baringa Partners

In the ‘Large’ category with more than 500 employees, Baringa Partners ranked second highest in Great Place to Work’s overall list. It is an independent business and technology consultancy founded in 2000. The firm, headquartered in London, presently boasts more than 600 staff and 60 partners across its four practice areas of Energy and Resources, Financial Services, Telecoms and Media, and Consumer Products and Retail. Last year, the firm continued its campaign of expansion by launching a new Australian wing with its Sydney office.

EY

With a UK headcount of more than 14,505, EY is by far the largest of the management consultancies commended for its efforts as an employer. The Big Four firm’s British wing reportedly hired 4,000 people in 2017, including 1,500 student places and 130 apprenticeships. The firm was named as one of the best five management consulting firms on last year’s list from Great Place to Work.

Mason Advisory

In the ‘small category’ of 20-49 employees, with offices at Manchester, Salford, and London, Mason Advisory provides IT consultancy and advisory services, solving complex business challenges through the intelligent use of IT resources including IT strategy and transformation, sourcing, architecture, cybersecurity and IT delivery. The firm operates in sectors such as education, retail, finance and banking, health, insurance, government and private security. In October last year, the firm received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

According to another recent ranking, Bain & Company is UK's top consultancy to work for.
