Managing Director hire bolsters A&M Taxand tax advisory practice
Alvarez & Marsal Taxand has appointed Jason Clatworthy as a new Managing Director from Deloitte. Clatworthy will spearhead A&M’s growth in the infrastructure sector, amid an uncertain period for the UK economy.
As Brexit looms over the horizon, the UK is on the brink of a number of potentially game-changing alterations to its tax regime. Amid a cloud of uncertainty – as the alleged deal struck by the UK and the EU still looks almost certain to fail to gain Parliament’s approval – many businesses are still in the dark about how best to prepare for the coming upheaval. As a result, tax advisory consultants are currently preparing for heavy demand in 2019.
Alvarez & Marsal Taxand is an independent tax group affiliated with global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M). The A&M network member consists of experienced tax professionals dedicated to providing customised tax advice to clients and investors across a broad range of industries. Taxand’s professionals extend A&M’s commitment to offering clients a choice in advisors who are free from audit-based conflicts of interest, providing services from offices in major metropolitan markets throughout the US, as well as in the UK from its base in London.
As the firm prepares for a period of heightened demand, it has been working to complete a hiring spree in its London office in particular. In May 2018, the firm appointed a trio of senior advisors in the UK’s capital city, followed by a duo of Senior Directors in December. Now, as the New Year commences, the firm has added a Managing Director to its ranks as well, with the arrival of Jason Clatworthy.
Clatworthy will serve as global lead for the firm’s Infrastructure Investors service offering. He will be based in London and will work alongside A&M’s senior practice leaders including Marvin Rust, who joined the firm last year as Head of A&M Taxand Europe. The appointment reflects A&M Taxand’s continued growth at a time when tax rules and regulations are in flux, and clients are increasingly seeking experienced tax experts free from audit conflicts.
Clatworthy brings more than 25 years of experience in corporate and international tax with a focus on infrastructure, private equity and financial services clients. Prior to joining A&M Taxand, Clatworthy was a Partner at Deloitte in London. There, he founded and led the Big Four firm’s infrastructure investors team from its inception in 2006. He was also the Tax Lead for the European M&A practice and global Infrastructure and Capital Projects group, advising infrastructure funds and direct investors on transactions across a range of asset classes.
Speaking on Taxand’s new arrival, Managing Director and Global Practice Leader Ernesto Perez said, “We are fortunate to have an accomplished tax professional and leader like Jason join our growing European tax team. His wealth of experience in the infrastructure sector complements our fund practice and demonstrates our commitment to the industry. While based in the UK, Jason will work alongside our transaction tax and financial diligence teams across the US, the UK, and Europe, to address market and client needs.”
Clatworthy himself commented, “I’m excited to be joining such a fast-growing and dynamic team. The platform A&M Taxand has built is a compelling one and I look forward to spearheading the firm’s global expansion in the infrastructure space.”
