Alex Jenkins and Gareth Crooks join A&M Taxand in UK

International consultancy Alvarez & Marsal has appointed two senior professionals to its Taxand brand in the UK. Alex Jenkins and Gareth Crooks will both serve as Senior Directors in the rapidly expanding British team, ahead of a busy 2019.

With Brexit now fewer than 100 days away, the UK is on the brink of a number of potentially game-changing alterations to its tax regime. With a cloud of uncertainty still obscuring exactly what those changes will be – as the UK and Brussels continue to play a high stakes game of Deal or No Deal – many businesses are still in the dark about how best to prepare for the coming upheaval. As a result, tax advisory consultants are currently preparing for heavy demand in 2019.

Alvarez & Marsal Taxand is an independent tax group affiliated to global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M). As the firm prepares for a heightened workload in the coming year, it has already completed three senior appointments. Marvin Rust joined the firm as Managing Director and Head of Taxand Europe, while Louise Jenkins and Andrew Ponting both arrived as Senior Directors in the spring. Now the firm has further added to the strength of its UK team with the addition of Gareth Brooks and Alex Jenkins as Senior Directors, who will report to Marvin Rust in the London office.

Alex Jenkins brings more than a decade of Big Four consulting experience to the role. Prior to joining A&M, he spent 10 years with EY where he worked with a range of clients in the FTSE 350 and large privately held international businesses, helping them with corporate tax advice, technical and business change. This included helping these companies manage tax risk, and advising on forward-looking agreements with tax authorities on domestic and cross-border issues. Before that, Jenkins – a  member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales – completed his ACA training with Deloitte, working on similar clients.

Gareth Crooks is also a Chartered Accountant with Big Four experience. Arriving at A&M after more than 14 years of tax advisory work, Jenkins started his career with Deloitte in 2004, becoming a Senior Manager before ending his nine-year association with the firm to join FTI Consulting. There, he became a Managing Director, before departing for his latest challenge at A&M Taxand. His new role will see him provide tax advisory and reporting services to clients, while specialising in the hospitality and real estate industries.
