OC&C Partner Philip Rowland joins private equity firm Riverside
US private equity firm Riverside has installed Philip Rowland as a new Partner. Rowland arrives from the management consultancy OC&C Strategy Consultants, where he held the same rank.
The Riverside Company is a global private equity firm founded in Cleveland and co-headquartered in New York. Since its founding in 1988, Riverside has invested in more than 550 transactions, and the firm's international portfolio now includes more than 80 companies, with $7.4 billion in total regulatory assets under management. In order to accommodate for its increasing demand, the firm has been working to bolster its support services by expanding its European services in particular.
So far in 2018, the firm has acquired or invested in five European companies and exited one. All of that has been part of a busy summer for Riverside firmwide, which has recorded at least 10 acquisitions or other company investments and exited four since the start of May.
Alongside this, Riverside recently appointed Filip Van de Vliet a partner in the firm’s Brussels office and promoted Rafael Álvarez-Novoa from principal to partner in the Madrid office. Now the firm has added another Partner, this time to its London office, in the shape of Philip Rowland.
Over the course of his career, Rowland has worked in Europe, Asia and North America in a variety of industries as a manager, consultant and private equity operating partner. He has focused on helping clients in B2B and Services to grow value, working for both top teams and investors in the process. This experience will be put toward his latest role with Riverside.
Rowland most recently worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants as a Partner, having arrived at the global strategy consultancy two years earlier. Prior to this, he spent 10 years working with management of private equity-owned portfolio companies at TDR Capital. Alongside this, Rowland also held a succession of Non-Executive Directorships, including with David Lloyd Clubs and the Stonegate Pub Company. He is also a former McKinsey Partner, having spent 11 years with the consulting giant earlier in his career.
Commenting on the appointment, a statement from Riverside said that Rowland will “further strengthen the Riverside operating model where each investee company is supported by both the Riverside investment team and one dedicated senior operator." The firm added, "This skilled team provides practical advice on improving processes, implementing the Riverside toolkit to boost sales and setting up long-term projects, like new product development, to take investee companies to the next level of international growth."
