Hay Group & Harris Corporation to provide veteran leadership training

The Harris Corporation and Hay Group have joined forces to provide US-based veterans with a training programme aimed at supporting them towards command in the private sector. The programme ‘Leveraging Military Leadership Program’, involves three months of training by leadership development experts, including the development of a set of tools required to operate within corporate life.

The Harris Corporation is a US-based telecommunications and information technology company. Started in 1895, following the development of a novel printing press, the company grew to become one of the world’s largest printing press innovators by midway through the 19th century. In 1967 the company transformed into a pure electronics innovator, following the changing times. Today, the company develops and produces a range of advanced telecommunications equipment for clients, including the US military and NASA.

The Hay Group division of Korn Ferry will work with the Harris Corporation to support US veterans transition into civilian working life, through the Leveraging Military Leadership Program. The programme, now in its eighth edition, aims at leveraging veterans’ military leadership capacities within the leadership of companies.

The programme lasts three months, and involves a similar research-based leadership development service the firm normally provides to Boards, CEOs and senior executives. Participants are engaged through online, remote and in-person assessment, coaching, instruction, group exercises and lectures. In addition, participants will develop a “targeted post-military career strategy,” as well as the tools to get there, including networking, using social media, interview techniques and corporate speak.

The programme is open to those, of any rank, that left service within the past two years or who will transition in the next 12 months. The programme application for two cohorts is open until July 25.

“The training, skills and dedication of our Veterans are strong assets in any industry or profession,” says Randy Manner, retired Army Major General and Korn Ferry Senior Partner. “The Leveraging Military Leadership Program helps them transfer those attributes to the civilian world and gives these men and women the tools to clearly articulate their unique value proposition to potential employers.”

“Harris is proud to support our nation’s veterans, who offer tremendous skills and represent an incredible talent source for employers nationwide,” says Robert Duffy, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Administration for Harris. “This unique program represents a significant opportunity for veterans to develop and grow their professional careers.”

“I came to LMLP disenfranchised, one of the many veterans who had almost given up on finding my dream job,” says Seth Keil, a retired Army Staff Sergeant with 10 years of service. “The rigorous classroom learning was facilitated by world-class faculty and executive coaches, and I left reinvigorated, with a targeted plan to find not just A job; but, THE job. Within 4 months of leaving the program, I accepted employment with my current organisation.”
