What is the Top Consulting Firms in the United Kingdom ranking?

Our ranking sets out to answer one basic question: what are the top consulting firms in the United Kingdom?

The consulting industry of the United Kingdom is home to hundreds of consulting firms – large, mid-sized, boutique and niche consultancies – serving clients across all industries and segments, and specialised in every conceivable area of expertise. Our Top Consulting Firms guide presents the industry’s leading players based on industry analysis and the views from both clients and consultants.

My firm has been ranked and I would like to celebrate the recognition. Is this OK?

Yes, all firms ranked can showcase their recognition throughout the year free of charge. Our Media Kit includes shields, graphics and artwork that support marketing and communication campaigns.

My firm has been ranked but has an inactive company profile. What does this mean?

An active company listing is part of our partnership model – this is separate from the ranking methodology (see the next question). For more information on our partnership model see the page Join the Platform.

What are the key principles of the ranking?

The Top Consulting Firms in the United Kingdom ranking is based on the ranking blueprint by Consultancy.org, our parent platform which conducts similar rankings across all regions and major countries.

The approach follows five key principles:

  • Inclusive: All consulting firms that meet our scope (see next question) and our part of our database qualify for the ranking. Inclusion is automatic, there is no opt-in for participation.
  • No fees: There are no fees across the full process, from entry and assessment to qualification and celebration. This ensures the process is fully independent from commercial interests.
  • Industry-wide: Our ranking is industry-wide, meaning that we assess firms active in all major areas of expertise (Strategy, Organisation, Finance, Supply Chain, Digital, Sustainability, etc) and all major sectors (Financial Services, Public Sector, Energy, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing, etc).
  • Holistic: Our ranking takes a 360-degree approach to evaluating firms. We gather insights from consultancy buyers, from consultants, and conduct an extensive benchmark drawing on our own proprietary database and vetted information from public and private sources.
  • Deep industry insights: While many consulting rankings exist, at Consultancy.org we go beyond the surface with a deep, insider understanding of the market. In fact, we believe we provide the most comprehensive benchmark in the industry.
What type of firms can participate in the ranking?

A key starting point for our ranking is which types of firms can participate (scope). Our Top Consulting Firms ranking centres around management consulting and digital transformation services, including fields which are directly adjacent to these areas.

Professional services that focus purely on the following areas are excluded from the process: Audit, Architecture, Communications, Creative, Engineering, Marketing, Investment Banking, IT managed services, BPO managed services, Public Relations, and Training.

For professional services with a blended service portfolio, such as accounting firms or IT companies with advisory practices, our ranking assesses and ranks the advisory side of the business.

Do all consulting firms in the United Kingdom participate?

Yes, all firms that have operations in the United Kingdom and meet the scope of our blueprint (see previous question) participate in the ranking. The ranking is fully inclusive and there are no fees throughout the entire process.

How many firms were assessed for the ranking?

More than 1,400 consulting firms were assessed for the latest edition of Top Consulting Firms in the United Kingdom.

What methodology is used to create the ranking?

Our approach takes an industry-wide and 360-degree approach to evaluating firms. We gather insights from clients, from consultants, conduct our own assessments, and draw on credible information in the public and private domain.

The ranking is based on two pillars: a survey of clients and consultants, and a capabilities assessment. Both factors have a weighting of 50%.

The views of clients and consultants are captured through Consultancy.org’s survey tool, which is open all year round.

Per May 2026: The global survey database spans 5,000 client reviews and 20,000 consultant peer reviews by capability/sector across around 80 areas of service.

The capabilities assessment is based on an evaluation of five factors: firm capabilities, industry awards, prestige, thought leadership, and popularity on Consultancy.org. For each factor, data is drawn from Consultancy.org’s database of firm capabilities and vetted external sources.

Firms that score above the threshold for ranking entry are included in the Top Consulting Firms in the UK list, with winners sorted across five levels: Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Within each level, consultancies are sorted based on their average score, although differences within a level can be negligible.

Firms that do not meet the threshold are excluded from the ranking. Across our rankings, over 80% of the advisory firms assessed do not make the ranking.

Which countries does the United Kingdom ranking cover?

Top Consulting Firms in the UK features leading firms based in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Why isn’t my firm listed in the ranking?

Out of more than 1,400 consulting firms assessed, only the leading players qualify for the ranking. If your firm is not ranked, it means that your firm did not gain sufficient positive scores across the assessment to be included.

Consultancy.org’s ranking methodology is based on two main pillars: data from surveys filled in by clients and consultants, and a capabilities assessment.

Not being listed in the ranking could also mean that your firm is not part of our database. Or that your firm is not eligible for participation due to our scoping. For further questions on this, send us an email.

I want to improve the score of my firm. What can I do?

Consultancy.org’s ranking methodology is based on two main pillars: data from surveys and a capabilities assessment. See the methodology Q&A for details.

Several ways to improve the score of your firm are:

  • Sharing the survey tool with clients. The survey is open all year.
  • Sharing the survey tool with consultants and staff.
  • Sharing content on the firm, projects and thought leadership with our editorial team. Information posted on our platform is automatically included in the database.
  • Sharing awards and achievements with our research team. This information is evaluated and inputted into the database.
  • Providing our research team with a deck that showcases company credentials/testimonials. This information is evaluated and inputted into the database.
When is the next edition of Top Consulting Firms in the United Kingdom released?

The next edition of Top Consulting Firms in the UK will be released in May 2027.

How many rankings of consulting firms are there in the UK?

There are several rankings on the UK consulting industry. The most well-known are:

The FT Leading Management Consultants is an annual ranking published by the Financial Times that identifies leading consulting firms based on recommendations from clients and peers. It is primarily survey-driven and reflects market perception across key consulting service areas.

The MCA Awards are annual awards organised by the Management Consultancies Association that recognise excellence in consulting projects delivered in the UK. Firms submit entries that are judged by an expert panel.

The Top Consulting Firms in the UK by Consultancy.uk is an annual ranking that highlights leading consulting firms operating in the UK based on a combination surveys from clients / consultants and a benchmark of capabilities.

What are the differences between the rankings from Consultancy.uk, FT and MCA?

Looking at methodology and participation, the rankings differ quite fundamentally. In brief:

  • The MCA Awards are case-based, driven by self-nominations with winners coming from a pool of ~100 firms.
  • The FT awards are survey-based, driven by participation from clients and consultants. Spans all firms in the market.
  • The Consultancy.uk awards are based on surveys and a capabilities benchmark. Spans all firms in the market.

The MCA Awards are entry-based and winners are selected from MCA members (around 100). Consulting firms submit applications, supported by case studies demonstrating project impact, innovation, and delivery. Entries are then assessed by a judging panel, made up of senior industry figures and client representatives. Winners are announced at the MCA Awards in October.

The Financial Times awards are survey-based, driven by feedback from clients and peers collected through surveys conducted by FT and Statista. Firms are judged on scores for satisfaction (given by clients) and recommendation (given by consultants). Around 1,700 firms are assessed, roughly 800 surveys are received per year, and approximately 160-180 firms are ranked. The rankings launch in February.

The Consultancy.uk awards are based on a combination of surveys from clients and consultants, and a benchmark of capabilities. Our global survey database spans 5,000 client reviews and 20,000 consultant reviews by capability. The benchmark draws on our own proprietary database of consulting firm strengths (UK and global) and vetted information sourced from public and private sources. Around 1,400 firms are assessed, with winners announced in May.

I want to enrol my consulting firm for next year’s edition. What should I do?

To ensure participation, you probably don’t have to do anything. All consulting firms that part of our database qualify for the ranking. Inclusion is automatic, there is no opt-in needed for participation. We continuously update the database to reflect new entrants to the UK market, mergers, splits, and other changes.

If you want to double check if your firm is part of our database, send us an email.
