Mosaic Island evaluates insurance client’s plans for line of business platform
Mosaic Island has executed a technical due diligence process for a client in the insurance sector. The work saw the consultancy evaluate plans for the client’s line of business platform, ensuring corporate sign-off, and budgetary approval for the project.
Founded in 2006, Mosaic Island is an IT services and consulting firm with offices in London and Bristol. The firm offers simplified digital business transformation services for blue-chip companies across the UK, and delivers solutions to complex IT challenges. Its clients include firms such as Europcar, Alliance Healthcare and East West Rail.
When a newly appointed CTO at a leading insurance firm required an independent trusted assessment, ahead of a major IT change, they subsequently turned to Mosaic Island for support. The consultancy was tasked with helping to determine whether an externally facing line of the client’s business platform, that had recently launched after multi-year programme delays, had sound system, software, and security architectures.
The client needed to know whether the platform was capable of supporting business growth, and play a wider IT role supporting other critical business processes managed by the technology team. To that end, Mosaic Island would need to define the current state of the line of business (a general term that describes the products or services offered by a business or manufacturer) system, and document its solution architecture, data flows, processes, and operating model including development pipeline and tooling.
At the same time, according to a statement from Mosaic Island’s website, it would need to “identify and assess issues, risks and opportunities within the line of business system”. And finally, it would need to produce actionable recommendations to rectify constraints and remediate risks, so that the line of business system can “play a role in the strategic growth of the business.”
Actions
Kicking off its intervention at the client, Mosaic Island interviewed subject matter experts, augmented by review of knowledge artefacts to confirm key user journeys, business processes and workflow. Views considered included “data processing, technical architecture and system design”, among others.
A consultant-led assessment followed, to determine scalability, security, quality, flexibility considerations. This enabled Mosaic Island to “identify issues, risks and opportunities”, before issuing recommendations for line of business system developments; establishing “a robust foundation for ongoing development to meet business needs”.
Following the plan, Mosaic Island issued an executive level report, to record findings and recommendations. And it also offered weekly engagement governance calls with sponsor and senior stakeholders, to ensure its consultancy “met sponsor expectations”.
The outcome of this was that the findings and recommendations report was presented and accepted by the managing director and the board at the client. At the same time, the company had its change programme and budget approved, “enabling the CTO to execute strategic changes and improvements”.
