Global procurement consultancy Inverto celebrates 25 years in business
2025 marks a quarter-century in business for management consulting firm Inverto. As the firm looks back on its landmark 25th anniversary, it is also positioning itself to reshape the future of procurement.
In a video address to celebrate the occasion, Inverto CEO Daniel Weise commented, “This summer we reach a milestone that fills me with pride and gratitude. As Inverto turns 25, we have grown from our European roots, into a global force – powered by our people, driven by our purpose and united by a culture unlike any other.”
First launched in Cologne in the year 2000, Inverto’s founders set out to create a consultancy which could revolutionise the procurement sector. This mission sparked rapid growth for the firm, with offices springing up across three continents.
After launching e-contor – a digital procurement platform – the firm also obtained its first private equity client in 2001, with supply chain advisory becoming an increasingly important part of the due-diligence process in a globalised economy. In 2006, Inverto opened its first international offices in Shanghai and London – as demand for its supply chain and procurement offering grew.
After further European expansion into Munich and Vienna, Inverto attracted investment from Boston Consulting Group in 2017: something which sent its growth trajectory into overdrive. By becoming a part of one of the world’s largest and most prestigious strategy consulting brands, Inverto not only opened up new opportunities with clients around the world, but capital to fuel its growing international footprint.
In the following years, Inverto opened offices in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Milan, Madrid, Frankfurt and Hamburg. But in 2024, the firm finally added a third continent to its operations, as alongside new locales in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Zurich, it also arrived in Chicago. Launching its first North American office was a landmark moment – as it is the largest regional consulting market in the world.
Sustainable growth
Over 25 years, as Inverto has tripled its geographic spread, it has also grown its headcount five times over – with over 600 experts now under its roof. That has necessitated efforts to continuously nurture the company’s culture, and foster an atmosphere of inclusivity. In 2020, for example, Inverto launched its Women@Inverto programme, dedicated to promoting and supporting women’s careers in professional services and the supply chain sector.
Meanwhile, its diversity and inclusion programme launched in 2022, alongside initiatives supporting physical and mental health among staff; ensuring employees felt empowered to bring their authentic selves to work, while receiving support to better enjoy life inside and outside of work.
Inverto has not limited its positive impact to within its office walls, either. For the last five years, it has also hosted its ‘Glühwein meets Charity’ event. The inaugural outing raised more than €75,000 for good causes – and has since become something the firm describes as “an integral part of Inverto’s DNA”.
At the same time, Inverto has consistently worked to promote sustainability, across its own operations, and those of its clients. Inverto often helps other businesses in procurement to comply with EU environmental regulations, and in the consideration of due diligence in deforestation-sensitive commodities. Inverto also encourages clients to set clear sustainability milestones and timelines as part of a broader net zero strategy – working with non-governmental organisations, academic institutions and research centres to develop new solutions.
One example of this involved helping a consumer durables manufacturer optimise container fill rates. Thanks in part to this logistical shift, associated CO₂ emissions fell by 400 tonnes, highlighting the way procurement improvements will be key to reducing the environmental impact of many firms, while also boosting efficiency.
Weise explained, “We’ve always believed in more than just results. We believe in how we achieve them by supporting each other, turning bold ambitions into reality, and helping our clients with stronger, more resilient businesses.”
Looking ahead
Inverto is keen not to rest on its laurels, though. Already planning for changes in its next 25 years, the firm refreshed its branding at the start of 2025, to reflect the pressures and ambitions which Inverto helps its clients respond to.
Laura McCracken, global marketing director of Inverto, explained at the time, “The new brand is an invitation to rediscover Inverto. It takes our DNA into the future and represents the promise to continue to provide the best possible support for our customers' success.”
Inverto’s shifts go beyond that, though. According to the firm’s website, Inverto is still “expanding into new markets, deepening our expertise, and investing in the next generation of leaders” together with parent group BCG. All with the aim of “shaping the future of procurement and supply chain transformation, while staying true to the culture and values that define us.”
Looking forward at the firm’s future potential, Weise concluded, “Earlier this year, we introduced our refreshed brand to now also visually convey exactly that: at Inverto we make businesses stronger. And to complement that, we have now also defined our ‘why’. Capturing the Inverto spirit and bringing even more clarity to the purpose that drives us all. Together, we lead. Here is to 25 years and to the future we continue to build together.”
