PKF Smith Cooper strengthens Derby team with two hires

Midlands-based accounting and advisory firm PKF Smith Cooper has appointed a manager and assistant manager to its employment tax and VAT team. The arrivals of Kate Donlon and Lucy Brooks continue the expansion of the company’s specialist tax departments.
Kate Donlon has joined PKF Smith Cooper as an employment tax manager based in the firm’s Derby office. She arrives after spending the last five years at a Big Four firm in the East Midlands. Having previously specialised in employment tax governance for clients who fell within the senior accounting officer regime, she also has had exposure to a wide range of employment tax matters including off-payroll working.
Donlon commented, “I am really looking forward to developing my knowledge, experience and client service by working with and learning from a diverse range of clients and colleagues. It is an exciting time to join PKF Smith Cooper and I am looking forward to being part of its continued growth and success.”
Lucy Brooks meanwhile also joins PKF Smith Cooper’s Derby office. Arriving as an assistant indirect tax manager, she will primarily work with businesses in the manufacturing, transport and logistics and eCommerce sectors. She began her career as a graduate in 2019 and currently specialises in overseas businesses trading in the UK, varying from sole traders to large corporations – with extensive experience working with clients through HMRC compliance checks and advising on the tax implications of contracts specifically relating to import terms.
Brooks added, “I'm really excited to meet the team and widen my knowledge of indirect tax as well as sharing my current experience of working with overseas businesses.”
PKF Smith Cooper is the network member of PKF in the Midlands, providing individuals and businesses in the region and beyond with a full range of audit, accountancy, tax and advisory services. It plans to double the size of its own company within the next five years.
