Karaoke Box continues trading following restructuring led by PKF Littlejohn

Karaoke Box, a popular London karaoke bars operator, has undergone a key restructuring and sales process, led by PKF Littlejohn. Having over-stretched during an ambitious expansion plan, the business had been left facing financial difficulties.

In 1997, the first Karaoke Box venue was launched on London’s Frith Street, aiming to bring “a little piece of Japanese nightlife” to the capital. According to the company’s website, “as far as we know” it was “the first [specific karaoke bar] in the UK!”

The venue invited Londoners to experience karaoke in a new way – behind a series of private doors, without a stage, audience or pressure. The opposite of the traditional way UK pubs presented a karaoke night. And the concept caught on quickly – with a Guardian review in 2005 noting the Frith Street site as a “cult favourite” venue for London’s growing karaoke crowd.

The success did not necessarily translate well to other sites though. By 2025, the business had grown to four sites across London and Birmingham – and the expansion proved overly ambitious, leaving the firm in financial difficulty.

Luckily, Karaoke Box now counts its future as secure, thanks to a sale process led by PKF Littlejohn. Karaoke Box will continue trading now, as with the support of the PKF team, it saw its finances restructured with a sale to management of two venues in London – along with the closure of one London venue and the Birmingham destination.

The sale and restructure was completed in August 2026, allowing Karaoke Box to continue trading and for the majority of the team, 12 people, to keep their jobs. During the restructuring process, PKF supported the management team to keep HMRC updated of its position and to ensure that the business was in the best possible position to succeed in the coming years.

The administrators’ legal advisors on the sale of Karaoke Box were Shoosmiths, while Gordon Brothers provided further support.

Paul Williams, head of advisory in PKF Littlejohn’s London office, said, “This is a positive result for the team and customers at Karaoke Box.  Not only can the business continue to trade and bring people together, but we’ve also been able to help ensure that the majority of staff have kept their jobs. With the two bars continuing to operate in the capital, we expect Karaoke Box to be on a much more robust footing for the foreseeable future.”

The leisure and hospitality sector has been a longstanding area of specialism for the PKF Littlejohn team, which has been bolstered recently with the addition of former CBRE director Shaun Skidmore to the team. Shaun brings more than 25 years of experience in the hotel, leisure, healthcare and operational living sectors to firm’s clients. In August, the team worked on the rescue of Beacon Park Boats – a leisure boating business based in the Welsh Valleys - safeguarding 30 jobs and hundreds of holidays.
