Richard Cotterill joins A&M to co-lead corporate finance energy team
Alvarez & Marsal has appointed Richard Cotterill as a managing director in London. He joins the firm to co-lead the company’s energy team in the UK and EMEA region.

Since it was established in mid-2023, Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has seen its corporate finance team grow significantly; now boasting 11 managing directors and 90 employees across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. As it kicks off 2025, the team has announced further plans to continue this expansion, including a first move into Ireland’s consulting market.
As the firm continues to scale its corporate finance practice in the UK and EMEA region, Richard Cotterill will co-lead the practice’s energy team, providing M&A advisory with a particular focus on decarbonising energy generation, the energy transition and energy services. Working from the London office, the new managing director will also help to expand that team as clients look to accelerate their decarbonisation efforts.

Bringing over 15 years of experience to the role, Cotterill has extensive knowledge dealing with corporates, investors and developers across the energy sector. He has advised on a broad spectrum of energy transactions, including disposals, acquisitions, capital raising, partnerships and structuring.
Most recently, Cotterill was a partner in KPMG’s energy corporate finance team. During his time with the Big Four firm, notable transactions he advised on included supporting Octopus Energy and its shareholders in raising $1.2 billion of capital at a valuation of $9 billion, and advising OX2 on 15GW of offshore wind development partnerships with Ingka Investments.
