Zühlke names Angela Bishop as UK CEO

International engineering and tech consultancy Zühlke has named Angela Bishop as its new UK CEO. She ascends to the role one year after joining the firm.

Commenting on her new challenge, Bishop said, “Zühlke has been growing rapidly in the UK in recent years through our emphasis on delivering innovation to the very highest standards of quality and reliability, and I will be particularly focusing on continuing this growth in financial services, healthcare, public sector, energy and retail.”

Bishop originally joined Zühlke in January 2023, arriving as UK managing director for market units – the firm’s industry sector practices. She was previously part of the UK leadership team of Thoughtworks, where she served as UK private sector portfolio director, with responsibility for overseeing services to all its business clients.

She steps into the shoes of predecessor Wolfgang Emmerich, who was UK CEO from 2009. Following the appointment of Bishop as his successor, Emmerich – who co-founded Zühlke Group in 2000 – will remain as the chair of the firm’s UK board. He will also stand for election to the board of the parent Zühlke Technology Group at its next annual general meeting.

Zühlke UK comprises 200 people and is part of a global team of nearly 2,000 colleagues, with headquarters in Switzerland and multiple locations across Europe and Asia.

Speaking on the company’s history, Bishop added, “Zühlke brings a wealth of experience to highly regulated sectors like financial services and healthcare through our Swiss heritage. For instance, Zühlke stands out as one of the select few businesses in the UK with the capability to deliver certified software as a medical device, something which is becoming increasingly important for solving today’s healthcare challenges.”

The firm also stands out as a leader in promoting diversity within the technology industry. Bishop’s appointment adds to the growth in women in senior leadership team roles at Zühlke UK. Besides her, that includes Melanie Marchant, head of business consulting for the UK; Isobel Pearce, head of UK marketing; Heather Savory, non-executive director; Linda Scott, business development for Scotland; and Sandra Blake, global HR director.

Bishop is keen to continue this focus on increasing the representation of women in senior roles. In addition to appointing a six-person leadership team with 50% each for women and men, this has seen her collaborate with colleague Linda Scott to establish a networking group, ‘Women Who Impact’, for women occupying business and technology leadership positions.
