FTI Consulting launches office in Manchester’s business district
FTI Consulting has launched a new office in Manchester. The new locale is the firm’s third in England, and its fourth across the UK.
The new locale in Manchester is based on St Peter’s Square, in the city’s premier business district. It will initially open for business with a focus on restructuring and insolvency services.
One of FTI Consulting’s powerhouse lines of business worldwide, the Restructuring practice helps corporates and mid-market businesses (as well as lenders and other professional services firms) with complex restructuring mandates, business turnaround, financial restructuring, insolvency liquidations, and the handling of (pre-pack) administrations.
“The launch of our office in Manchester marks an exciting chapter in the development and continued growth of our practice,” said Matt Callaghan, a Senior Managing Director and Head of the UK mid-market restructuring and insolvency offering at FTI Consulting.
“We are delighted to expand into the North East at a time when the corporate market continues to witness headwinds on several fronts,” said David Morris, a Senior Managing Director and Head of Restructuring at FTI Consulting.
According to date from the UK government, the total number of company insolvencies in the UK for 2023 (up to June) rose to 14,691. This number represents a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2022 and a 75% increase compared to 2021.
For clients seeking restructuring advice, FTI Consulting is one of the most trusted advisors. Last month, the firm was named one of the UK’s top restructuring consult firms for 2023 by industry platform Consutlancy.org.
Alongside providing restructuring expertise, FTI Consulting’s consultants work closely together with the firm’s M&A and corporate finance experts to deliver a rounded offering also spanning related topics such as distressed divestments or capital reorganisations.
Leading the new office is Oliver Wright, appointed a Senior Managing Director. He brings more than 16 years of advising companies, lenders, shareholders, investors and the government on special situations in, amongst others, the retail, financial services, real estate, automotive and manufacturing sectors to restructure and stabilise.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Wright was at PwC, where he established a reputation for advising lenders and corporates in the Manchester restructuring market. Whilst at PwC, he spent three years in Singapore, where he worked on cross-border restructuring assignments for businesses and financiers across Southeast Asia.
The thriving technology scene of the North West continues to attract consulting firms, looking to make the most of the market. Last month, MI-GSO | PCUBED also expanded into Manchester (its 3rd office nationally), while post-summer Deloitte will be moving its Manchester team into a new office.
