PA Consulting chooses Mark Humphries as Chief Scientific Officer
As PA Consulting looks to strengthen its offering to clients across science-based industries, the firm has installed a new Chief Scientific Officer. A company stalwart, Mark Humphries brings more than three decades of experience helping deliver important scientific innovations.
Ken Toombs, CEO of PA Consulting, commented, “I’m pleased Mark will serve as our Chief Scientific Officer. Mark has extensive industry knowledge and has spent decades serving our clients. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to integrate applied science with design and engineering, and deliver tangible innovation for our clients.”
PA has been looking to enhance how it delivers scientific innovation for clients through 2023. In March, the firm announced it was combining its design, engineering, and science skills, with PA’s wider end-to-end innovation capabilities. The new combined team will partner with clients to envision and create new growth platforms: from their brands and products, to their services and experiences.
Leading the charge, Humphries will work to enhance PA’s position in applied science, and its integration with design and engineering to deliver more disruptive innovation. He takes on the role of Chief Scientific Officer having spent 35 years delivering some of PA’s most impactful scientific inventions. These have included new drug delivery devices, gene therapies and point of care tests, to biomaterials replacement for plastics, novel sensing and detection systems, and developing new manufacturing processes for advanced materials.
Humphries said of his promotion, “In my new role as CSO, I’m looking forward to leading a team who are always learning and applying fundamental science understanding to solve the most complex global challenges. PA’s deep understanding of scientific first principles enables us to originate new and better solutions for our clients and differentiates us in the market. I’m excited to work with such a talented team at PA and together, continue to shape our future.”
The appointment follows PA’s appointing of Mike Hyne as a Partner in its health and life sciences practice. The global life science tools market size was valued at $144.08 billion in 2022, and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 10.8% from 2023 to 2030 – and the firm is looking to meet rising demand for consultants specialising in the sector, as a result.
