James Osborn named Chief Digital Officer of KPMG

03 April 2023 Consultancy.uk

The UK wing of KPMG has appointed James Osborn as its Chief Digital Officer. He steps into the shoes of Lisa Heneghan, who has been promoted to Global Chief Digital Officer at KPMG International.

A growing number of top companies now see Chief Digital Officers as integral to their continued prosperity. Research from the World Economic Forum in 2020 suggested that more than one-fifth of firms now have such an officer, thanks to the pressing need to ensure an orderly transition to business centring on digital technologies.

KPMG also sees technology is key to how the firm will deliver its own business strategy, while using it to grow and innovate its offering. In his role as Chief Digital Officer, James Osborn is accountable for the design, build and delivery of the firm’s digital strategy – including ways of working for the firm’s 17,000 people, and also the services offered to clients.

Speaking on the appointment, Chris Hearld, Chief Operating and Financial Officer at KPMG UK, commented, “James has a huge depth of experience, especially in transformation leadership and digital programmes, having worked on many large projects for clients over the years. He is well placed to take forward our firm’s digital strategy here in the UK.”

Osborn brings more than 20 years of experience to the role, specialising in major financial services transformations, and enterprise scale change programmes with technology. Prior to his 11 years as a Partner at KPMG, he was also a Director at Deloitte, and a Manager at Accenture. Over the course of those engagements, he has led transformations across the banking and insurance sectors in the UK, US, Middle East and Australia.

The appointment sees Osborn take on the role of Chief Digital Officer at KPMG UK from Lisa Heneghan. A KPMG employee of 12 years, she now takes on the role of Global Chief Digital Officer – having helped launch the new KPMG Products line in 2022.

Osborn said of his predecessor, “I am looking forward to working with Lisa in her global role and thrilled to take on this position and help steward the UK firm’s digital future. Through the power of technology and our people we will continue to transform how we work and how we serve our clients as a leading multidisciplinary firm.”
