Jaguar Land Rover has announced a new partnership with Tata Technologies. The collaboration aims to accelerate the digital transformation of the automotive giant’s industrial operations.

The automotive industry is in the midst of a global gear shift, as various mega-trends make themselves felt. Automation, electrification, connectivity and mobility, are each set to transform how consumers and corporations alike utilise vehicles, resulting in a more integrated, sustainable and safe operating environment. As manufacturers look to respond to these trends, as well as supply chain disruptions relating to Brexit and the pandemic, many are ramping up digitalisation efforts, to improve their efficiency.

Jaguar Land Rover, also known as JLR, is a British multinational automobile manufacturer. JLR has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors – in which Tata Sons is the largest shareholder – since 2008. As JLR looks to accelerate the digital transformation of its industrial strategy, it has turned to another aspect of the global Tata Group for support.

JLR is partnering with Tata Technologies – a subsidiary of Tata Motors, which provides engineering and design, product lifecycle management, manufacturing, product development, and IT service management to automotive and aerospace original equipment manufacturers. Tata Technologies now deliver end-to-end integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), to help JLR transform its manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, finance and purchasing modules.

Anthony Battle, Chief Digital & Information Officer, Jaguar Land Rover, stated, “Jaguar LandRover’s digital transformation will play a pivotal role in the business becoming more agile as part of Reimagine and fulfilling its potential as a tech leader. As part of our Digital 2024 programme, we are transitioning to a cloud-native digital landscape and the partnership with Tata Technologies enables us to take another important step on that journey.”

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) refers to a type of software that organisations use to manage day-to-day business activities such as accounting, and procurement. ERP systems are also capable of aggregating, storing and interpreting data to provide insights instantly, helping companies respond to issues, challenges and opportunities in an agile and timely manner.

The collaboration between JLR and Tata Technologies will leverage an intuitive new user interface for ERP from the consultancy’s software suite. Its initial rollout will focus on the core production facilities of JLR in the UK, helping them bring data and knowledge from multiple departments into one single source, before those solutions are deployed to other global locations.

Warren Harris, CEO of Tata Technologies, commented, “The ERP transformation collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover is another milestone in a nearly two-decade relationship with Tata Technologies. The trust awarded by Jaguar Land Rover reaffirms our long-standing expertise in automotive engineering and digital solution offerings. We believe this collaboration will help Jaguar Land Rover to build innovative and sustainable vehicles and achieve faster time to market using new-age digital technologies. We are delighted to strengthen our existing engagement with Jaguar Land Rover and are fully committed to deploying our digital engineering capabilities and assisting with the launch of their new generation of vehicles.”

JLR has long been collaborating with Tata’s professional services offerings, having collaborated on various fronts since 2012. The partnership has strengthened with joint initiatives and efforts made in areas such as connected product engineering and digital transformation. In 2021, for instance, the firms announced a new deal regarding Jaguar’s Forumla E team.
