Professional services firm Atos has been appointed by West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to provide service desk, infrastructure and network and hosting services. The maximum ten-year contract will see Atos help continue the Trust’s transformation, as it deploys new digital infrastructure across its operations.

Healthcare providers are under strain across the UK, thanks to multiple challenges that have shifted public demand and the ability to meet it. The NHS, which remains under resourced, is struggling to meet the expectations of a growing, ageing and increasingly demanding population. As it is constantly pushed to do more with less, many trusts are looking to technology to help save the institution’s time, money and human resources, in order to prioritise frontline service provision.

In recent years, this has seen West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust unfurl an extensive digital strategy. By 2025 it aims for digital technology to underpin every aspect of its clinical innovation, as well as providing a core digital foundation to empower the population of West Hertfordshire, and support its staff in providing high-quality, safe, consistent and efficient care.

As this drive ramps up, Atos has been appointed by West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to provide service desk, infrastructure and network and hosting services. The Trust provides care to around half a million people in west Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. The maximum ten-year contract also contains a potential for Atos to broaden to digital and other services, helping to continue the Trust’s transformation.

Matthew Coats CEO, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, commented, “Following the significant IT improvements we have successfully achieved together, this contract with Atos will focus on the technical transformation we require in order to continue to evolve services for our patients.”

The contract was awarded following a competitive bidding process. It builds on the existing partnership between Atos and West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, forming a core part of the digital foundation for its hospital redevelopment plans.

Samantha Jones, SVP Health & Life Sciences, Atos, added, “We look forward to continuing our partnership with West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust which began in 2019. Through this new contract we will deliver a high-performing environment and platform integral to the Trust’s journey to augment patient care.”
