Investment industry expert Ricky Maloney has joined Sionic as a Director. He arrives as the firm looks to expand its expertise in ESG, blockchain, NFTs and digital assets.

Sionic is a global consulting firm specialising in financial services. With main offices in New Jersey, Toronto and London, the firm’s more than 450 staff work with clients across North America, Europe and Asia to advise them on banking, asset and investment management, financial markets infrastructure, wealth management, insurance and reinsurance.

In late 2021, Sionic was acquired by Davies, a fast-growing private equity-backed consulting and technology group. The firm is now looking to grow its offering across a number of new fronts.

Ricky Maloney has joined Sionic as a Director in Sionic’s specialist Asset Management Practice, with a focus on expanding the firm’s reach across the buyside, including in North America. The London-based professional is an expert in topics affecting the investment industry, including new and emerging areas such as ESG, crypto, NFT and blockchain technologies.

Maloney commented, “I look forward to helping Sionic deliver intelligent solutions across a diverse range of topics and geographies to ensure optimal outcomes for clients.”

Over the course of his 25-year career, Maloney has held a number of leadership roles. As well as spells with BNP Paribas and Ignis Asset Management, this included a stint as Managing Director at Solvere FMC investment bank, and Head of Buy Side Sales - Fixed Income, Funding & Financing at Eurex Clearing.

He also holds a number of qualifications in blockchain, sustainable finance, crypto assets and financial technologies from Buffalo School of Management New York, Duke University, INSEAD and Erasmus University Rotterdam, and a BSc Hons in Business & Management Studies from the University of Sunderland. He is a regular media commentator, speaker and author on topics affecting the investment industry.

The appointment of Maloney follows the arrival of Sascha Calisan at the turn of the year. She also joined Sionic as a Director in its Asset Management practice, and will now lead the firm’s specialist distribution services capability.
