Moore Kingston Smith celebrates 100 years of business
Professional services firm Moore Kingston Smith is celebrating a milestone 100 years in business throughout 2023. The centenary recognises 100 years of supporting clients, industry innovation, learning and growing into the firm it is today.
Moore Kingston Smith is a UK firm of accountants and business advisors, which has been helping clients since 1923. With over 70 partners and more than 700 people based in and around London, the company has come a long way in the 100 years since its launch – and is planning to celebrate its biggest achievements over the last century, throughout 2023.
The company’s Managing Partner, Maureen Penfold, commented, “We're so proud to commemorate 100 years of Moore Kingston Smith and the journey taken to reach where we are today. It's amazing to think we began in 1923 with two partners and now we have a wonderfully diverse team of people across a wide range of disciplines.”
Part of the firm’s celebrations will see the launch of a special video, highlighting the firm’s key milestones in the decades since it was launched by Herbert Kingston and George Alan Smith in 1923. Among the moments featured are the launch of what was then known as Kingston Smith’s corporate finance department in the 1980s – the first of many new service offerings to follow as the accountancy branched into professional services provision – as well as the 1995 creation of the firm’s business recovery and insolvency arm, and its 2005 launch of an HR consultancy.
In 2015, it gained approval for an ABS licence by the Solicitors Regulation Authority – making Kingston Smith the first medium-sized accounting firm to receive such a licence. Then, in 2019, it became a member of the Moore Global network – taking up its current brand of Moore Kingston Smith – which gave it an international reach. And in 2021, the firm leant that weight to the creation of a new non-profit service: the Moore Kingston Smith Community Foundation in 2021.
The company’s centenary is not only about looking back, though. According to Penfold, Moore Kingston Smith is “equally excited about the future”. This will include further building on its offering to respond to clients, while enabling them to access expertise at a national, European and global level through the Moore network. At the same time, the company also has some more exciting plans to give back to the community.
Penfold added, “Contributing to social mobility will be a focus for us in 2023. Ensuring people from all backgrounds have access to the world of accountancy is important to us, and we will continue striving to provide a people-first, inclusive workplace that drives sustainable success for our people and clients, without whom Moore Kingston Smith would not be where we are today."
This will see Moore Kingston Smith mark it 100-year anniversary by launching its ‘Giving 100’ campaign – a commitment that emphasises its purpose. The campaign will see Moore Kingston Smith support a number of initiatives to help its people and local communities, from a bumper participation in the London Landmarks Half Marathon, to marching in London Pride, and more – as it seeks to establish a legacy of giving throughout its second century.
