Rebecca Emerson leads UK operations of Oliver Wyman
Global management consulting firm Oliver Wyman has named Rebecca Emerson as Managing Director of its UK operations.
Rebecca Emerson has over 20 years of working experience. She started her career in 1995 as a market economist at the Bank of England, and then moved into banking, holding risk management roles at Barclays and NatWest. In 2000 she moved into the consulting industry, and joined McKinsey & Company in London, where she spent two years working on strategic transformations, with a focus on the financial services industry. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman in 2005, Emerson served Invesco, a US-origin investment management company with offices in more than 20 countries, as Head of Business Strategy.
At Oliver Wyman, Emerson supports financial services clients on topics such as risk management, finance and treasury, as well as provides management consultancy services to a range of clients in other sectors. She was promoted to Partner in 2010, and most recently was responsible for the consultancy’s treasury agenda in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). In her new role Emerson will lead the UK organisation, a role which spans providing direction to all industry practices and functional capabilities, overseeing business development and market positioning, and internal activities such as HR, recruitment and internal operations.
Commenting on her appointment, Emerson says it is a “tremendous honour” to lead the firm, stating “My focus will be to continue to create a competitive advantage by ensuring we lead on important emerging themes, particularly the transformative power of digital, for our clients across all sectors.” Reflecting on the growth outlook for the coming years, she highlights that the UK consulting market finds itself in a period of strong growth – according to the MCA the market grew by around 8% last year to a value of £8.6 billion – and further describes it as a “market that continues to pose new and exciting opportunities.”
Emerson, who holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Oxford and gained a Master in Economics from the University of California, will report to Davide Taliente, a 25 year veteran of the firm (he joined the consultancy in 1990). “Rebecca has the vision, leadership and experience to help us continue to grow in the important UK market. I congratulate her on the appointment and look forward to working closely with her well into the future as we deliver on our strategy and ambitious growth plans,” comments Oliver Wyman’s Head of Europe.
Earlier this year Oliver Wyman appointed Nick Studer head of its Consumer & Industrial Value Transformation practice, while in December last year Ted Moynihan was named Managing Partner of the firm’s global Financial Services business.
