CGI launches new office in Newcastle Helix

14 December 2022 Consultancy.uk

IT consultancy CGI has rolled out a new hub in the North-East of England, having collaborated with the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, aiming to bring new jobs to the region. The office in the Newcastle Helix will put CGI in close proximity to a number of prominent UK technology and science businesses also in the building.

The Newcastle Helix is a partnership between Newcastle City Council, Legal & General and Newcastle University. The 24-acre development brings together industry leaders, businesses, and top researchers into an international renowned innovation cluster. It is an exemplar sustainable urban development which combines prestigious commercial and residential space with first class research and education facilities. This development will eventually create more than 4,000 jobs, 500,000 square feet of office and research space and 450 new homes.

In recent months, the hive of technological and scientific activity has also started to attract consulting firms, keen to tap into the talent of the area. Earlier in 2022, software consultancy Scott Logic moved its headquarters to the cluster. Now, CGI has announced a new outpost within the cluster.

Similarly to when CGI arrived in Salford after securing a partnership with the Northern Powerhouse Initiative, CGI is working in partnership with Newcastle Gateshead Initiative (NGI), which markets Newcastle and Gateshead both nationally and internationally. The ambitious partnership between CGI and NGI is focussed on providing local people with high-value digital roles that allow them to continue living and working in the North-East.

Sarah Green, CEO of NGI, said, “CGI is a valued strategic partner of ours, working closely with local authorities, universities and private-sector organisations with a shared ambition to see the region thrive through their business development and talent attraction. It is great to have a newcomer to the region so engaged and committed to achieving positive social impact, and we look forward to continued collaboration on key priorities for the North East.”

Looking ahead, the new office allows employees access to a well-located working environment and the ability to collaborate with like-minded businesses, as well as universities and the local authority. This complements the company’s regional metro model approach, which focusses strongly on supporting and investing in the communities in which its people and clients live and work, as well as working closely with both established and start-up organisations within the technology sector.

Paul Buxton, Senior Vice President of Consulting Services at CGI in the UK, added, “Through this new office, we can help drive substantial growth in the North-East of England, a region in which we have long supported and sourced talent from. We are pleased to be part of this leading innovation hub, with our new office demonstrating our commitment to the North-East, which promotes itself as a world-class place to live, work, learn and visit. We look forward to continuing to work with NGI to help build a prosperous future for Newcastle, Gateshead and surrounding areas.”
