Government names OC&C's Michael Jary as Lead Non-Executive Director
Consulting veteran Michael Jary has been installed as Lead Non-Executive Director for the UK Government. Jary, who was part of the founding team of OC&C Strategy Consultants, brings almost four decades of experience to the role.
Speaking on the news, Chief Operating Officer for the Civil Service, Alex Chisholm said, “Michael Jary brings a huge wealth of experience from business and Government to the role, and I look forward to working together on the Government’s top priorities.”
Non-Executive Directors provide independent expertise, challenge and scrutiny to the work of departments – providing invaluable external insight to support the Government to achieve its objectives and deliver for UK citizens. The Government Lead Non-Executive brings non-executives from different departments together to ensure shared issues and concerns are being pursued across Government.
Jary takes over the role from Lord Nash, who performed the role over the last two years. He will work closely with the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, the Cabinet Secretary, the Civil Service Chief Operating Officer, and other senior civil servants across Government. He will also join the board of the Cabinet Office.
In the coming time, Jary will play a key role in building leadership and management skills in departments, recruiting new non-executive directors and supporting the Cabinet Office and departments to transform the way public services are delivered. In order to fulfil this mandate, he will draw on a varied career, with extensive experience in both the public and private sector.
In 1987, he was one of the founding team of OC&C Strategy Consultants – where he remains a Senior Advisor – and was previously the firm’s Worldwide Managing Partner.
Jary has been a strategy advisor for over 35 years – starting at Booz & Company – while other current roles include Non-Executive Director of Barclays Bank UK, Chair of Itad, and Chair of Duchy Originals. He has been the Lead Non-Executive Director at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities since February 2019.
