Meet the host of the MCA Awards 2021: Sandi Toksvig

29 October 2021 Consultancy.uk

Comedian and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig will host the annual MCA Awards ceremony in November. The event is hosted by the representative body for British consulting firms, with 32 firms and 65 individuals from across the industry short-listed for prizes.

The 24th edition of the MCA Awards will take place on November 1st 2021. The latest instalment of the Management Consultancies Association’s annual showcase maintains its changed time-frame, which takes place later in the year due to the coronavirus pandemic. While some things have changed to adapt to the past two years of uncertainty, however, many more have remained consistent.

Once more, the event will be fronted by a BBC television personality. The past two editions were helmed by news anchor Clive Myrie, and radio and television host Jeremy Vine – while this year, respected comedian, broadcaster and activist Sandi Toksvig will be the master of ceremonies.

The British-Danish broadcaster is currently best known for her work fronting popular BBC 2 panel show QI, as well as a recent spell co-hosting The Great British Bake Off – however, alongside her comedic work, she is also noted as a writer, actor and producer on British radio, stage and television.

Toksvig was appointed Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2013 for services to broadcasting, but over her career she has also written more than 20 fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults, and is currently President of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain. On top of this, as a passionate advocate for women’s rights, she also co-founded the Women’s Equality Party in 2015.

In 2020, amid the Covid-19 lockdown, Toksvig launched a podcast series called ‘We Will Get Past This,’ which shared stories of notable women. The pandemic will also be a key theme within the MCA Awards this year – with new awards including a prize for Exceptional Support and Delivery by a Consultant During Covid-19.

Commenting on the newly announced host, MCA Chief Executive Officer Tamzen Isacsson said, “We’re delighted Sandi will be presenting the awards this year and we have received a large amount of interest from firms in attending this key annual event. The MCA Annual Awards ceremony will be a chance for the industry to come together after one of the most challenging years and to champion the work it delivers for key clients and the amazing talent in our sector.”

Overall, there are 24 award categories with 7 individual awards and 14 project awards as well as an award for Best New Consultancy, Consultant of the Year and Project of the Year. The ceremony will take place at the traditional Park Plaza venue in London. It is also the location of the 2022 event, for which preparations are already underway.
