Alvarez & Marsal adds trio of seniors to tax advisory practice
Three senior directors have arrived with Alvarez & Marsal’s tax wing via Deloitte. Nick Walton, Jack Hollyman and John Bettley-Smith have joined A&M Taxand’s infrastructure investment offering.

Nick Walton’s arrival sees A&M Taxand expand its footprint in Manchester, having opened the office there in 2018. Based in the North-West, he is experienced in advising infrastructure funds and mid-market private equity firms through the entire transaction lifecycle. He has also led acquisition tax workstreams and advising portfolio companies on post-acquisition strategy, strategic acquisitions and refinancing, structure maintenance and IPO readiness.
John Bettley-Smith is based in London, and has previously assisted infrastructure and sovereign wealth funds with tax issues at each stage of the transaction lifecycle. He has also served as lead on multiple due diligence and transaction structuring workstreams for acquisition and fund launch processes.
Jack Hollyman also joins the firm’s London wing, specialising in private equity and infrastructure tax advisory. Additionally, he advises funds on their post-acquisition strategies and tax profile improvements. He has led numerous UK-based and international buy-side and sell-side due diligence and structuring projects.
Prior to joining A&M Taxand, Bettley-Smith, Hollyman and Walton served as Directors in Deloitte’s M&A and Funds Tax group, advising key private equity and infrastructure clients on acquisitions, restructurings, and disposals. They each have extensive expertise solving for merger & acquisition tax concerns in the infrastructure asset class and for corporate and international tax issues, and their arrivals also build upon the recent joining of Senior Advisor James Robertson, and Managing Director Stuart Twinberrow.
