Cognizant has acquired Inawisdom, a privately-held AI, machine-learning, and data analytics consultancy based in the UK. The deal comes as part of a $1 billion expansion campaign for Cognizant in its data and artificial intelligence, cloud, digital engineering, and Internet of Things capacities.

Headquartered in the UK, Inawisdom specialises in advanced analytics, business and market intelligence, and data science. With expertise in AI and machine learning, the company provides full-stack Amazon Web Services cloud and data services, including data lake and data platform through to engineering, predictive analytics and IoT. From offices in Suffolk, London, and Rotterdam, Inawisdom employs a skilled team of experts, working with global organizations across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East.

Inawisdom marks Cognizant’s ninth acquisition in 2020 to expand capabilities for clients globally in the key focus areas of data and artificial intelligence, cloud, digital engineering, and Internet of Things. These purchases have included moves for US based IoT consultancy Bright Wolf and Microsoft partner New Signature, among others. Over the course of 2020, this has seen Cognizant invest over $1.1 billion in these areas, though financial details of this particular deal were not disclosed.

Commenting on the move, Malcolm Frank, Cognizant’s Digital Business President, said, “Businesses succeed or fail by the speed and quality of their decisions, and the best business decisions are informed by data and AI. We are pleased to welcome Inawisdom’s skilled team to Cognizant and further accelerate our innovation on data modernisation and intelligent decision-making.”

Cognizant hopes the addition of Inawisdom will benefit from the firms’ shared relationships with Amazon Web Services and combined expertise with AI, machine learning, cloud, and data analytics. Since its launch in 2016, for example, Inawisdom has developed the Rapid Analytics and Machine Learning Platform (RAMP), based on AWS cloud technology, to provide a continually evolving and reusable code repository and accelerate AI-driven business outcomes. Using RAMP, coupled with its own Agile consulting approach, Inawisdom helps clients across multiple use cases from enhancing supply chain efficiency to improving customer service and reducing operating costs.

“As a committed and proven expert in AI and machine learning, we are excited to join Cognizant and build on Inawisdom’s unique combination of accelerators and skills,” said Neil Miles, CEO, Inawisdom. “Our combined strength will further support customers in embedding data-driven decision-making into their organisation, increasing their speed to business value and long-term market differentiation.”

At the same time, Inawisdom will hope being part of Cognizant provides access to a wider, global network of AI and machine learning professionals, and a wealth of new capabilities that will expand the firms’ joint service offerings for successful data transformation. With more than 8,000 certified cloud professionals supporting clients, Cognizant is recognised for its expertise in hyperscale cloud strategy and implementation.
