Oliver Wyman has appointed UK-based partner Nick Studer as Managing Partner of its management consulting business.

The 46-year-old has been with Oliver Wyman since 1997. He was elected partner in 2003, and has been part of the firm’s Executive Committee since 2012. Currently, he heads Oliver Wyman’s Consumer and Industrial practices globally. Previously, Studer led the global Financial Services practice, Oliver Wyman’s largest industry vertical in terms of revenue.

During his career at the consulting firm, he has worked with (senior) leaders of the world's top companies on topics spanning governance, strategy, financial planning, risk management and public policy & regulatory response. Studer has led and worked on projects in the United Kingdom, Europe and North America.

In his new role, effective January 1, 2021, Studer takes the reins for the management consulting business of Oliver Wyman, which is by far the largest unit of the $2.1 billion company. The firm’s other arms are NERA (economics consultancy), Lippincott (design and branding services) and Oliver Wyman Actuarial (focus on risks and pensions). Combined, the group has 5,000 professionals working from 60 offices.

Up until Studer’s appointment, Oliver Wyman was run by the partners on its global leadership board, but did not have a dedicated leader. The other three divisions meanwhile are led by Lawrence Wu (NERA Economics Consulting), Chad Wischmeyer (Oliver Wyman Actuarial) and Rick Wise (Lippincott).

“Nick’s appointment brings Oliver Wyman’s governance in line with the other businesses,” said Scott McDonald, the Chief Executive Officer for the entire Oliver Wyman group. “This new position will increase our leadership capacity to help us implement our strategy and achieve our ambitions more rapidly,” he added.

Commenting on his new role, Studer said: “I am honoured to take on this role, and to work alongside the entire Oliver Wyman team to achieve our ambitions. I am excited to continue to build a highly differentiated management consulting firm that collaborates with our clients to deliver truly industry-shaping impact.”

Outside of Oliver Wyman, Studer has supported the World Economic Forum on the role of financial services in society, supported Her Majesty's Treasury in proposing a 10-year vision for the global competitiveness of the UK's financial services industry and was a founding director of TheCityUK.

A subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Oliver Wyman is one of the globe’s leading and most prestigious strategic and management consulting firms.
