Alvarez & Marsal hires Lorenzo Grillo to lead cyber risk service team
Lorenzo Grillo has joined Alvarez & Marsal from rival consultancy AlixPartners in London, where he served as co-leader of the EMEA Cyber Security practice for over four years. The new Managing Director will now take responsibility for leading A&M’s expanding European cyber risk services team.
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has been rapidly growing its UK presence in recent months. In September, the firm launched its fourth UK office in Leeds, joining the firm’s offices in London, Birmingham and Manchester, amid growing demand in the North of England, particularly in restructuring and insolvency work.
Now, as the company looks to bolster its cyber security offering, it has appointed Lorenzo Grillo as a Managing Director in its London wing. He brings 30 years of experience to the firm, and will support the expansion of A&M’s cyber risk services in Europe, part of the business’ disputes and investigations practice. Leading the cyber risk services team, Grillo will work to help clients navigate the growing threat of cyber-attacks.
Speaking on his new role, Grillo said, “In our digital world, the risk of cybercrime is unavoidable, regardless of business size, market or industry. These threats are continually evolving – so it’s critical businesses have the means to keep up with the pace of change. Throughout my career, I’ve seen first-hand that while cybercrime is rising up corporate agendas, many leaders are unaware of the most appropriate practical and actionable measures that mitigate risk, leaving their businesses vulnerable.”
Over the course of his career, Grillo has advised senior teams and private equity firms on both sell-side and buy-side due diligence or within their portfolio companies. He joins A&M from AlixPartners, where he served as co-leader of the firm’s EMEA Cyber Security practice, based in London, for over four years. Under his guidance, A&M’s cyber risk team will advise European clients across multiple sectors, including financial services, manufacturing, retail, telecoms and healthcare, identifying the best solutions to protect sensitive customer and corporate data from cybercrime.
Julian Jones, Head of A&M’s disputes and investigations practice in Europe, commented, “Our ethos is that cybersecurity is not a technology issue, but a business issue - and should be understood as so. Emerging threats and high-profile cybercrime mean it is not enough to depend on traditional approaches that operate in isolation from wider corporate priorities. Lorenzo brings decades of cutting-edge IT and security risk expertise from leading consultancies’ and we’re confident he will be a fantastic asset as we expand our offer to new markets, serving both existing and new clients.”
