Global consulting firm AlixPartners has announced that Nick Wood has joined the firm as a Managing Director. Wood arrives in the firm’s M&A Services practice in London, having previously spent two decades with Deloitte.

Founded in 1981, AlixPartners is an international consultancy specialising in helping businesses address complex and critical challenges in the digital age. The firm’s clients include companies, corporate boards, law firms, investment banks, and private equity firms. One area where AlixPartners routinely assists its clients is in merger and acquisition (M&A) work, helping clients drive growth through M&A, private equity fund raisings and debt raising, and refinancing transactions.

A large portion of M&A deals are currently being spurred by the growing global trend for digital transformation, but though ‘buy over build’ strategies can help companies accelerate change and drive competitive advantage, many businesses struggle to extract the full value of acquisitions due to their inability to integrate diverse company cultures. This makes it increasingly important to consult with external experts to find targets which will be the right fit.

Nick Wood joins AlixPartners as Managing Director

In order to better support clients with M&A activity, AlixPartners has appointed Nick Wood to its EMEA M&A Services team. He will focus on the industrials sector in the UK and Europe, the largest sector in European M&A, representing approximately 20% of European deal volume, according to Mergermarket. AlixPartners’ M&A Services team combines in-depth industry relationships and significant cross-border transaction experience with hands-on operational and financial expertise to help clients maximise value and minimise risk on acquisitions, divestitures, and complex carve-outs or mergers.

AlixPartners CEO Simon Freakley remarked, “Nick is a recognised leader who brings a wealth of experience to our M&A Services offering. As we build out this team to serve clients in Europe, the UK, and the US, Nick’s hands-on approach and proven track record will be key to helping our clients address some of their most urgent and complex challenges. We are delighted to welcome Nick to our firm.”

Prior to joining AlixPartners, Wood spent 20 years with Big Four firm Deloitte, where he was latterly a Partner in its industrials practice. He was responsible for the origination and execution of transactions across the industrial sector, having completed deals in the chemical, print, paper and packaging, building materials, aerospace, transport, oil and gas, renewables, mining, and construction sectors. A Chartered Accountant, Wood also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accountancy with Business Finance and Capital Markets from the University of Dundee.

Commenting on his appointment, Wood said, “I am thrilled to join AlixPartners at this very exciting time. The firm’s strength and expertise in the industrials sector and its market-leading capabilities in value creation provide a fantastic platform on which to build an industrials M&A team.”

Earlier in the summer, AlixPartners also announced that Tim Roberts had joined its London office as a Managing Director. Arriving to bolster the firm’s digital practice, the former McKinsey & Company and IBM Partner now works with a special focus on advising clients in the financial services industry.
