AlixPartners hires technology risk expert Tim Roberts
Global consulting firm AlixPartners has announced that Tim Roberts has joined as a Managing Director in its digital practice. Based in London, the former McKinsey & Company and IBM Partner will work with a special focus on advising clients in the financial services industry.
2018 saw a busy year for AlixPartners, with the firm routinely called upon to aid companies with restructuring and administration work, as a slowing economy drew multiple casualties. With Brexit, a weakened pound and stagnant wages all playing a part in suppressing spending, the economic uncertainty facing Britain has bled into 2019, leading the firm to bolster its capabilities by appointing a number of Managing Directors across its international offices.
Earlier in the year, Paul Brabant and Paul Thomas were installed in AlixPartners’ London office, amid a raft of 22 similar announcements for the firm’s global network. Now, AlixPartners has further strengthened its office in the UK capital with the addition of another Managing Director, in the form of consulting industry stalwart Tim Roberts. He brings more than three decades of experience as a senior consultant to the role, having served as a business leader in strategy, technology, and risk, with deep knowledge across financial services and other highly regulated industries.
Following his service as a Second Lieutenant in the British Army, Roberts became a Manager at Swiss bank S.G. Warburg, before taking his first role in consulting with McKinsey & Company in 1993. He spent 16 years with the MBB strategy giant, becoming a Senior Partner before moving on at the end of 2009. After three years as Chief Operating Officer at Ignis Asset Management, Roberts joined Promontory Financial Group, an IBM Company, and by late 2017 he was installed as Vice President and Partner at IBM Security Services, where he focused on cyber-security and FinTech.
Roberts holds an MA in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Oxford and has a Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the ACCA. He has been a trustee of the Mayors Fund for London since 2008, and its Chair since 2015, roles which he will maintain alongside his duties at AlixPartners.
