Manchester consultancy plots expansion after record growth

A Manchester-based consultancy has declared record levels of growth in its annual turnover, despite Brexit pressures which have seen the rest of the professional services sector stall in recent months. The Peninsula Group enjoyed a year-on-year boost of a fifth on last year’s figures.

Since 1983, The Peninsula Group has been providing professional services to small businesses across the UK. Specialising in consulting on employment law, the firm has since expanded to provide services including tax and payroll advice, employee assistance programmes, and HR and health & safety training. Through organic growth and acquisitions, Peninsula has also moved beyond the borders of the UK, and now provides this offering to small businesses in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Peninsula Business Services has for some time been one of the largest health and safety and employment law consultancies in the UK. The firm has, however, come under the same pressures as the rest of the consulting industry in recent months. Brexit anxiety has seen a rising number of clients offsetting potentially lucrative projects, while an ageing population and the rise of digitalised competitors has led to a tightening in the human resources market. Despite this, or even thanks to it, however, Peninsula announced a record year of growth and turnover.

The group declared an annual turnover of £270 million, on the back of rocketing sales in the UK which rose by 20% year-on-year. The strong performance of Peninsula has resulted in significant growth plans, not only in financial terms but also in job creation across the UK – and particularly in the North West. The consulting industry has begun to arrive in the region in full force in recent times, in order to take advantage of the ongoing Northern Powerhouse initiative. As a mainstay in the area, Peninsula is looking to recruit 70 graduates for roles in HR, legal, sales, marketing, IT and health & safety.

Commenting on the results, Geoff Ford, Group Sales Director, said, “The results show that the Group’s ability to adapt to change has made us stronger as a business. The expanding portfolio of Peninsula Group companies – including Peninsula, Croner, BrightHR, Health Assured and more – shows how we constantly evolve, adapt and innovate… In light of the abolishment of tribunal fees and the uncertainty over Brexit, we have seen a substantial demand from small business owners for our services. Our expertise helps ensure that they avoid the risks of financial losses and employment regulation repercussions.”

Peter Done, Group Managing Director and Founder, added, “The Peninsula Group is delighted to report another record year of sales. It’s an exciting period for the business as we continue to grow and innovate as the market leaders… We anticipate this growth will continue across all areas of the business. And whether it’s in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or Canada, we remain committed to providing great value and the highest standards of service to our clients.”
