New 2018 European Championships hires Atos for tech support

The 2018 European Championships organisation has appointed Atos as the first official supporter of the event, to which it will supply Timing, Scoring and Results technology, as well as television graphics services. The firm brings more than 20 years of experience supporting top sporting events with similar services to the event.

The 2018 European Championships is a newly created European sporting event, brings together the bodies of athletics, aquatics, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon, to hold their respective European championships at a single event. The inaugural event will take place in August of 2018 in Berlin and Glasgow, with the individual events split between the two locations. The combined event is expected to see higher television viewer numbers, among other benefits.

Commenting on Glasgow hosting the inaugural event, Councillor Archie Graham OBE*, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council, says, “Glasgow’s sporting reputation has never been higher thanks to our international sporting events programme. The European Championships will see us embark on the next stage of this proud sporting journey in partnership with Europe’s leading sports.".

Atos to support 2018 European  Championships with technology support

The organisers of the Glasgow arm of the event recently announced that Atos has been commissioned to support the digital side of execution. The digital transformation firm will leverage a number of technologies – the firm has provided IT solutions to top level sporting events over a 20-year period, to provide the 2018 European Championships with Timing, Scoring, Results and TV graphics service for Cycling, Golf, Gymnastics and Triathlon. In addition, the IT consulting firm will be providing a TV graphics highlights package with which to wow the audience of over one billion across Europe.
