Rajesh Gopinathan has been appointed CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services, he was formerly the firm's CFO. He takes over from Natarajan Chandrasekaran, who has become the Chairman of the Tata Group. Gopinathan is tasked with charting the future of the company that has seen considerable growth in recent years, today employing more than 371,000 people globally.
Rajesh Gopinathan, prior to his promotion, was, since 2013, the Chief Financial Officer at Tata Consultancy Services, holding responsibility for the finances of the now $16.5 billion global company. He joined the firm in 2001, working in a variety of roles, before becoming the Vice President - Business Finance, whereby he took responsibility for financial planning and control as well as revenue assurance and margin management.
Gopinathan holds an Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Engineering College, Trichy (now National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli) and a post graduate diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
Tata Consultancy Services has appointed Gopinathan to the role of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the company. He takes responsibility to chart the future of a company that has seen rapid growth under his financial control, and the leadership of former CEO Natarajan Chandrasekaran – who has been appointed Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group.
Chandrasekaran, remarks on the transition, “TCS’ core strength is its strong leadership talent that is collaborative and aspirational. Gopinathan, says about his appointment, “I would like to thank the TCS Board and Chandra for the privilege and honor to lead this great organization. TCS has evolved into an industry leader during Chandra’s tenure. It is definitely big shoes to fill. With continuous guidance from Chandra and the support of the TCS team, I am confident of continuing this great journey that TCS is on.”
