Royal HaskoningDHV appoints new Business Strategy Director in UK
Global engineering and consulting firm Royal HaskoningDHV has appointed Alan Gerrett as Business Strategy Director in its UK operation. Gerrett joins from dredging specialist DEME Group, where he held a leadership role.
Alan Gerrett has over 25 years of experience. He started his career in 1989 in technical engineering with Hydra Group, after which he moved to Edmund Nuttall, where he spent over eight years, in his most recent role as Business Development Manager. Ten years after launching his career, Gerrett joined VolkerStevin – the UK arm of Dutch engineering group VolkerWessels (€4.9 billion revenues) – where he, during his twelve year tenure at the firm, held a range of leadership roles in sales and business development, and ultimately served as a Board Director.
After working for roughly four years for blue-chip company Hochtief, in the role of Head of the firm's Marine business unit, Gerrett transferred to DEME Group, where he held the role of Managing Director of a new UK operating company having overseen its establishment following the development and implementation of a new business model for the UK.
Per 1 November 2016, Gerrett embarked on a new adventure, and joined Royal HaskoningDHV, with more than 6,000 professionals in 150+ countries one of the globe's larger engineering and consulting firms. In his role as UK Business Strategy Director, Gerrett will primarily work with the management teams of two Business Lines – Maritime & Aviation and Transport & Planning – to increase Royal HaskoningDHV's profile and share of the maritime business and position the company to grow further into the UK infrastructure market.
Reflecting on his move, Gerrett says, "I'm looking forward to working in with the team here in the UK. A recurring passion during my career has been the successful development of new, technically challenging markets and delivering improved business performance. The maritime industry and the potential for infrastructure here in the UK both offer great opportunity for Royal HaskoningDHV to develop and bring new innovations to the market and I'm excited to see what the future holds for the company."
Craig Huntbatch, Resident Director of Royal HaskoningDHV's UK operation, comments that he is delighted with the addition of Gerrett, and adds "He has extensive industry experience which is key for us, having worked in marine engineering and infrastructure. His knowledge of offshore wind and tidal within the renewables sector will be invaluable to maintaining our leading position in this industry in the UK."
