Marsh appoints Martin South as President of its US and Canada Division

Marsh has appointed Martin South as President of its US and Canada Division, he starts in the new role from 1 September 2016. South is tasked with overseeing the firm’s diverse portfolio of companies and clients within North America, as the firm and its clients react to a rapidly changing environment. South is based in the firm’s New York office and reports directly to Marsh’s President, John Doyle.

Martin South joined Marsh in 2007, taking on the role of CEO for the UK, Ireland, Turkey India regions. In 2012 he took on the role of CEO of Marsh Europe, following which, in 2013, he took on the role of CEO Asia Pacific. South previously worked for Zurich, where he was the CEO of the company’s International Businesses. In addition, he took on the role of CEO of Zurich Financial Services for three years in 2003, and was the CEO of Zurich Specialty London between 1999 and 2002.

Marsh is moving South into the role of President of the firm’s US and Canada division, starting from 1 September 2016. The role will see South responsible for a number of the firm’s interests in North America, including its US core brokerage, businesses in Canada, and portfolio of US businesses encompassing industries and practices. In his new role, South will report directly to Marsh President John Doyle, and will work from the firm’s new New York office. South replaces Rob Bentley, who is stepping into a new role within Marsh & McLennan Companies’ Risk and Insurance Services (RIS).
