Global consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton has acquired Epidemico, a health analytics start-up company, to boost its analytic capabilities in order to support its clients’ needs. Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

Epidemico is a, in 2007 established, health analytics company and a commercial spinoff of Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The informatics company provides early insights, continuous monitoring and consumer engagement for a variety of aspects of population health. These aspects include among others disease outbreaks, drug safety, and supply chain vulnerabilities. The firm is currently known for the ‘HealthMap’ that has been credited with tracking the spread of Ebola in West Africa.

In line with its commitment to further develop leading edge analytic capabilities in critical areas such as population health, Booz Allen Hamilton has announced its acquisition of the Boston-based Epidemico. According to the consulting firm, the combination of Epidemico with its own data science capability and federal and commercial health teams will enhance its ability to support a broad set of client needs.
