PA Consulting wins Big Data Project of the Year
PA Consulting Group has won an ‘IT Industry Award’ in the UK. Its project for the National Health Service (NHS) England was chosen as the ‘Big Data Project of the Year’.
Every year, the BCS organizes the ‘IT Industry Award’, a competition that gives recognition to the best IT projects, professionals and technologies. Winners are announced in four categories: Individuals, Projects, Organisations and Technology. Per category six prices are awarded.
In the category ‘Projects’, PA Consulting Group and health care institution NHS were awarded the ‘Big Data Project of the Year’ award. The project was delivered by PA using technology from QlikView and Google Enterprise to develop a cloud-based intelligence tool to give NHS England the power to analyse its data more efficiently. The tool brings together over 100 health indicators from 15 different national sources, including mortality rates, hart failures and doctor visits.
PA's solution provided doctors with one centralised database, allowing them to make swift decisions and for corrective action to be taken. The bottom line benefit: better patient care, lower internal operational costs and higher client satisfaction.
“Winning this award, shows that there are tangible and really innovative success stories out there, using business intelligence today. This project with Google and QlikView has been very exciting. We have been able to build a system in a couple of days as opposed to months”, says James Mucklow, IT expert at PA Consulting Group and project lead of the NHS England project.
