Grant Thornton launches new degree programme with University of Leeds
Grant Thornton has announced the launch of a new accounting and finance professional degree programme in partnership with the University of Leeds. The bachelors degree is designed to attract and develop some of the brightest talent from across the UK.
Professor Julia Bennell, executive dean of Leeds University Business School, commented, “We are delighted to be partnering with Grant Thornton, one of the UK’s leading professional services firms, on Talent Track. This distinctive new degree programme brings together the academic rigour and strength of Leeds University Business School with meaningful, paid professional experience.”
As the professional services sector looks to improve accessibility to new recruits, the project offers internships, a full-year placement, mentoring and direct employer engagement, to help students gain the knowledge, confidence and professional networks to support their future careers. According to Bennell, this also “reflects our shared commitment to opening up opportunity and creating clear, supported routes into rewarding careers in accountancy and finance.”
Talent Track is a four-year degree programme, which will be delivered by the University of Leeds and Grant Thornton. It will combine academic excellence with practical experience. Students will benefit from multiple paid work placements, including a full-year placement in their third year. Upon successful completion, graduates may be considered for permanent roles with Grant Thornton, including the potential for an ACA training agreement and a fast-track route to qualification.
The University’s strong industry links and professional exemptions further enhance the programme’s value. As an approved ICAEW partner offering exemptions for the ACA qualification, Leeds supports the firm’s ambition to accelerate chartered membership for graduates, reinforcing the quality of its teaching and curriculum.
The first cohort is expected to start in September 2026, with plans to expand the programme in following years. Applications will be managed through a joint process via the University of Leeds admissions and Grant Thornton’s assessment and selection process, ensuring candidates are supported throughout.
Programme highlights include a first two years where academic study complemented by multiple paid placements and access to mentors and guest speakers; a third year with a 15-month placement at Grant Thornton offices nationwide; and a final year of academic study with continued placement, mentoring and engagement. Meanwhile, post-graduation, the course will lead to a permanent role with an ACA training agreement, offering a fast-track route to qualification.
